Okay....I am going to give you a rundown. This could be long.

First of all.....Pick A Date. Make sure that it is a day when most people will be able to come (including mommy, of course!!)

Second....Pick A Theme. It's always a good idea to go with what the baby's nursery or layette is. If your friend hasn't registered....ask her what theme she wants. If she has registered....check out her registry to see what the theme is. (If she hasn't registered....encourage her to do so. It's always nice for guests of the shower to have an idea of what mommy needs!)

THE SHOWER

Invitations can be hand made or store bought. Try to get the invites to match the theme of the shower. People will look to the invite for guidance in choosing gifts.....if they see a giraffe on the invite they will pick a giraffe toy over a ladybug toy because of that!!! Send the invites out at least a couple of weeks before the shower. Really enforce the RSVP. Give people ten days to respond....and then call them to ask them if they will be able to attend. Knowing how many people are coming will really help you plan games/food/and dessert.

Mid-afternoon is a great time. Between lunch and dinner on a Saturday seems to be the standard.

Food: Veggies with dip, Quartered Sandwiches, Chips, Salad. Snack foods.....just make sure you have stuff mommy will like, too!! Punch is always nice.... Also...dessert. Cake is a standard but you could always do something like Chocolate Mouse, Pie, Ladyfingers, etc.

Decorations: Simple will work fine. Make sure the colors are coordinating with that theme you picked. Latex Helium baloons are always a nice touch. A diaper cake can serve as a centerpiece as well as YOUR gift to the new mommy (I make those!!!). Crepe paper streamers are good. A banner could also go over well. If the food is laid out nicely....that is decorative. If the gift table has something like a diaper cake on it....that is decorative. If the room everyone is gathering in has the balloons and streamers....that is decorative.

Games: I put a link below to a page on my website that I just built. It has some nice SENTIMENTAL games on it. It's great to mix some sentiment in with the silliness. I really like the "Letters To Baby" activity....and I think the guests and parents would, too!!

Favors: At the bottom of that same page I put some ideas for favors/prizes. None of them are overly pricey. Once again....go with your theme. Get on Ebay....there are many people who sell individual packets of items like bath salts that are GREAT shower favors. You'll save a lot of money this way, too. Plus they come in plain plastic baggies that can be "personalized" with the shower info on your computer (print out cards that can be attached to the bags with hot glue or staples!!). Who doesn't like a great bath?

MOST OF ALL.....leave room for people to socialize and have fun. Overplanning is not great...neither is underplanning. Have music on in the background (burn a CD full of great songs about kids.....Wonderful World, The Riddle, Return to Pooh Corner, I Hope You Dance, Baby of Mine, etc). Music is always nice.

I hope that helped....the links to my page are below.

IF you would like to look into a diaper cake....check out that website, too!! They really are great to have at a shower...and, once again, you won't have to buy a centerpiece AND a gift because you'll have both in ONE!!! I would love to create this gift for you....

CELEBRATE BABY!!!

Decorate the house in pink and blue streamers and balloons. Send invitations early so people can get them a gift. You can even buy little baby dolls to put on a cake. Provide finger food. Have party games. There are alot of games ideas on the net if you google 'baby shower games'. Usually are cheap and alot of fun for the mother-to be.

You are thoughtful. Get with your friend and set a date. Get an invitation list from her. If she is registered include that on invitation. Does she know the sex of the baby? You can decorate but don't have to. Games aren't necessary but can be fun. Ask your friend what she prefers. Just have a pleasant afternoon and I am sure your friend will appreciate your efforts.
