Here's a sure-fire method, but no guarantees....
Figure out what kind of snake you want, go to the library (or online if you have no other choice, but remember not to believe everything you read on the net) and do a BUNCH of research on the type of snake you want. Become an expert on it. Then explain to your parents that you want a such and such type snake, and this is how big it gets, and this is what it eats, and this is what kind of cage I'm planning on keeping it in, and it will live for so many years, and it needs all this stuff, and in the wild they live in such and such a place, etc. etc.
This is your best start, not only does it show your parents how much you want the snake (because of all the research you did for it), but it also assures that you know everything you need to know about it BEFORE you get it. Which is always a good thing.
good luck.

I hade the same thing, too. My mom is terrified of snakes. All I did is let time pass and show them how easy it is to take care of the snakes and don't tell them that they are good in getting in places. When I told me mom she was certain of not getting one but, she saw how easy it was to take care of and she said yes. Make sure that you don't make them mad or its never. Just wait a couple of months and talk to some snake breeders and tell them to talk to your parents. You should get a corn snake because, those are the easiest snakes to take care of and the nicest. Thats what I had to get but, I still want a boa.

Depends on your parents really.
I think by them saying "next year" they are testing to see if you are serious or if it is just something that you want 'right now'
Because when you buy a snake your are signing up for a 20 year commitment on being this reptiles mamma.
Read up on it, spend the next few months doing research on how to care for it, it is exciting to design your own cage and have someone build it for you, or take a shop class to build it yourself etc.
But mainly...if it is something that you truly in your heart want to have as a pet...time and patience will work on your side if you don't deviate from wanting one. Focus, figure out what kind and learn.
Good luck!

I persuaded my parents to get me a dog and a bearded dragon by showing how responsible I was. I fed the other pets, walked them, babysat the neighbors pets, and did extra chores. Soon enough, they were looking on websites about the animal and saving their money up. Sure enough, I got what I wanted!

i guess i had the same problem but with a dog. I would first show them how responsible you are in the house and at school (if you attend) This might change their mind. if you really saved up that money they should know. this is more of a do than say

You could say it is for a school project, and show them how interested and much you know about snakes and how responsible you are. Then, pretend to be doing a lot of research for ur 'project'. I hope my ans helps...:)

first beg them for a dog (If you have a dog, then a cat or a rat or a hamster or at least something worse than a snake), and keep on asking them for it 'till their bored, and then say to they, "Fine, if you don't want to buy me a dog (or any other pet), buy me a snake!" They'll surely buy you one.

Show your parents how much you know about snakes, as much as the late Steve Irwin.
Tell them exactly how you will take care of it.

Say "mom dad...I'm gay! and I'm going out with Terance and we're in love!" (after dramatic pause) Then say "not really, can I have a snake?" they'll be so relieved they'll say "yes."
