I personally do not like the cards and really do not like the cartoon!
Can someone please tell me what the obsession with these cards are and what in the worlf this dueling thing is??!!

Yu-Gi-Oh! cards are one of the few Japanese-made card games that wasn't inspired by an anime. The Yu-Gi-Oh! we know today was inspired by the manga series Yu-Gi-Oh!: Duel Monsters. The cards are fantastical and the characters are over the top. Each characters deck is composed of cards that express their personality rather than actual winning strategies. *lol* Kids love it because it reinforces the notion that you can be a winner by being yourself and staying true to your ideals and values. Yu-Gi-Oh!: Duel Monsters centered around the story of Yugi Motou and the spirit of the pharoah Atem, who'd lost his memory and been imprisoned in the Millineum Puzzle for 3,000 years, and has a subplot centering around friendship and self-empowerment. The newer Yu-Gi-Oh!:Generation neXt is really just a 30 minute commercial for Konami's Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG(Original Card Game) and its plot is basically the same as Duel Monsters except without the interesting characters.

As for actual dueling, its just harmless fun. Though I advise you to supervise your son when possible and approve all trades. Also, some kids like to sort of RP(role play) when they play Yu-Gi-Oh and when someone loses they get sent to the "Shadow Realm". The Shadow Realm is something invented by 4Kids TV to replace the parts of Yu-Gi-Oh when someone was killed. I'd try to discourage any RP involving the Shadow Realm.

Tell your son that people who'd laugh at him for not having Yu-Gi-Oh cards aren't his friends. *sigh* Its obvious these kids have been watching Yu-Gi-Oh but didn't pick up its message of friendship.

Yu Gi Oh is VERY similar to the Pokemon cards that were out some time ago. The kids like to "Duel" with them. It's a strategy game on cards. Sort of like Magic the Gathering, or World of Warcraft. If you ask me, take the cards away, and have him go outside, and play. It's much more productive (as far as exercise) and he'll be healthier, rather than staying inside to play this game with his friends. Explain to him, that if his friends make fun of him for it, then they are not his true friends, only real friends would TRY to understand.

Well the obsession with these cards is that it's a very fun card game. Don't make him get rid of them because trust me, he would never forgive you. In dueling, the scoreboard is lifepoints, and everytime you attack and attack mode monster, you must subtract the damage from the lifepoints. So, as a result, your child can and will get better at math if he plays this game. Besides, if you just make him get rid of the cards, do you have any idea how much money you will have just wasted?!?!?!

It's a really fun trading card game. Tell him to not leave the cards on the floor or they'll lose their value as the cards can be sold.
