A single Mom like myself moved into the house next to mine. We hit it off right away and she is a frequent visitor. The odd thing is I OFTEN catch her picking up my porcelian and glass nickknacks looking for makers marks. The other day she was in my living room and didnt hear me come out of the bedroom and I saw her wad up a piece of paper and quickly put it in her coat pocket. It fell out as she was leaving and on it she had written all the names of my paintings on the walls and the artists name. Any advice?

Sounds to me like she is trying to find out if any of the items are of any value. If she finds that they are she may try to take them or have someone do a break in on your house when she knows you are gone. Is there someone else in the neighborhood that you know you can trust to keep an eye on your house? if yes, ask that person to call police if he or she sees anyone around your house including the new neighbor when you are not at home.

If you kept the paper why not invite her in for a coffee and just explain what you saw and what you found and ask her what is going on. If she becomes defensive you know that there is something wrong and she may be planning on removing some of these items with a little help from someone else.
If it turns out that she is just one of those people that like to copy the same decor as someone else, then you can both have a laugh about it.

I would limit her availability to your home. maybe she's scoping the place out to burglarize it. Or a friend will and she'll get a cut. Why would she care what the names of artists are unless she was trying to find out the value of the pictures? And why would she need to know the value. don't trust her.

She's probably trying to immitate your taste seeing that it is good.

Unless you find her doing something that may harm you or your family, it's alright... Thought I must admit, what she's doing is annoying.
