Humans are a tiny part of what makes up the universe, so I am sure that the universe would continue after our departure.
The for who? Does there have to be a who to answer, can't it simply be for the natural order of things?
Think of all the animals now extinct, would they have pondered the same questions if they had been given the same logic as us?
Great question though

Well, the universe doesn't exist because of people, people exist because of the universe. And when people get extinct, the universe will continue exist for itself, as it does now. At least that's what science says.
And if the universe was created for the people, then people won't get extinct. The creator won't let it happen... Hopefully.

That is definitely the absolute answer of existensialism. If we exist have we created a universe in which to do so and therefore if we become architect of our own destruction do we leave an empty shell of universe behind?
If so are there many empty shell universes floating in a greater sea of existence the size of which is incomprehensible to human minds?
Sorry about answer the question with two more.

why shouldnt it its been going on for millions of years without the human race so why not
human beings are so full of themselves as if the universe is theres and not as it is just being part of it
the universe just is
there dont have to be a who and considering the size of the universe what difference can humans make on this little speck of dust we call home
the sun and the earth will not exist one day but the universe will still be there
there may be life on other worlds it would be great if there was

Other species, that survive, will "inherit" the earth/universe. Look into the loving eyes of a dog and you will see a species that deserves life as much as humans do. Consider "survival of the fittest"...........dinosaurs were amazing and magnificent (dangerous to humans too!). They deserved to survive too. Unfortunately we are not all compatible. Someone at the top of the food chain will outlive another species and the system/cycle continues. It is truly fascinating. I wish I could see and know the past and future. It is amazing how much our scientists/anthropologists have shown us and "brought to life" already. They may not always have the correct or perfect theories; but their imagination and intelligence brings a great deal of information to the average person that would not have been known without their work.

There will always be humans around. Extinction won't happen. If it does, then I guess the insects might take over.

What a very Humanocentric view.
The universe is a big place and we are a very small part of it. It was around for a long time before us, it'll be a round for a long time after us. We have no great impact on it one way or the other.

I think if humans got extinct the natural balance would resore after a while. proberly the next highest animal on the food chain. they may even evolve or there may be another blackout and brand new species will surface just like from dinosaurs to us.

Extinction is normal. Millions of species that once existed no longer do so.
In time we shall be extinct also but other life forms will outlive us.
