Our Constitution was enacted (or put into law) by Parliament on March 29, 1976 by Act No. 4 of 1976 and took effect on August 1, 1976.

A constitutional assembly was set up under the chairmanship of Dr.Rajendra Prasad in 1946 to build constitution of INDIA.This constitutional assembly also had a draft committee in it which work for the elementary idea of the constitution(whose head was Dr Bhim rao Ambedkar).This constitutional assembly completes it task in 2 years,11 months & 18 days & our constituiton was completed on 26 Nov 1949 & the day is known as "LAW DAY" even today.
It was decided that in order to made the day 26 Janauary a memorable day for forever(as on 26 January 1930 for the first time the "Purna Swaraj" was asked in an assembily of INC & the day was celebrated as independence day by hoisting the flag.),the new constitution should come into effect on that day.So finally on "26 JANUARY 1950 " Indian constitution was enforced 7 the day is celebrated as "REPUBLIC DAY" till date.
