i say it is a Major issue...
African footballers have often fallen victim to racial abuse while playing for their clubs in Europe, something that frequently has a psychological impact on them and their performance.

It affects their ability to concentrate on their game and while they may find it very irritating, it leaves one to ask the question: ‘Why should players of color by any means be subjected to racial abuse when they are indeed creating a big impact in the beautiful game we all love?’
Why we hear about racism against African players but not against black players from Brazil? After all, Ronaldinho and Robinho are black. Ronaldo and Adriano are mixed but they have some African roots. Are the players from Africa being discriminated because of their skin color or simply because they are from Africa?

My dear,I most tell u the truth. This is one of the best question I ve come across this year and I hope many will have their opinion to these question or think twice about their relationship with the Blacks or the Africans any where in the World. It really hurt ones feelings and makes you to feel ashame sometimes. But i guess one of the factor is of racism is Jealousy and more lack of education(this is not to do with degree obtain in University).I was equally sharing this one time with a fellow not African guy when Samuel Eto of Barcelona was racially abused on 2-3 occasions.Well, let us continue to show love to the other color and never get discouraged or hate them.I know its hard to chew to show love to other that are not responding to you with Love and care. Thanks once more for sharing that lovely question.Love and Peace!

What can you say?

Europeans are just racist. You would think that with all the diversity of cultures and such in Europe that they would be able to get along with black/African people. This isn't the case though.

They seem to treat black people in a similar way that the US treated blacks until recently. I guess the Euro's just don't care for black people and their rights as people. Maybe this will change in time.

In America's defense, I can honestly say I've never seen monkey chants, bananas thrown at black players, and Nazi salutes by players and fans. These gestures would lead to an ejection from the game and probably a good *** kicking by the fans that saw this. If America were to hate blacks they would pretty much be hating 65%-70% of the players because most of them are indeed black.

Also, sport seems to have softened America's old racist ways. American's use sport to come together and forget about normal life for just a little while. Everyone is equal. European football needs to be more like this. They don't need to be using sport as an excuse to get together and be racist or hatefull.

It's just sad you know. As you look into the history of humans, you will see that it is not nice. Wars are waged, nations and territories are forged from the battlefields. It's the sad truth. However, I still can't understand why some people still have the capacity to hate. Worse, it is done in a sport which almost all the world love: football. And it really made me realize on what you have mentioned: Why Africans are the ones getting the taunts? It may probably be because of the history of the two continents (Europe and Africa) but it has been a long time gone now. Right now, people of all regions are supposed to be equal. We are now living in the 21st century with big leaps in terms of technological and scientific progress. Hey, we can even watch live feeds of football from halfway across the globe!!! I think, now is the time to progress in terms of our understanding of our fellows. Look at Africa, it has been way behind of the benefits of most countries partly due to that grim history of slavery, and still some people who cannot quite understand still have the guts to make offensive chants that aims to degrade a race? Well, shame on them!

These players play for a living and they use their strengths to the utmost limit to provide entertainment so that at least for 90 minutes we can forget the worries of this world and we can assemble together and have a good time by enjoying the sport of football. What they are doing is an honorable job, they even are well idolized by most people not only in their respective countries but also on their clubs. They even inspire people, which is a great thing! It's something one can be proud of. They are models of hope and yet some people still have the guts to insult them and bring them down, while other people are living as enemies of society yet what, some people even put them on pedestals?

I think some people have to undergo a sort of re-orientation in terms of dealing with their fellowmen.

I remember an incident where European fans threw bananas on the field in a black players direction.I recall a few even hitting him. After trying to ignore it,he eventually became furious and confronted the entire crowd as he was consoled by his team(many of his teammates were white)but he was clearly inconsolable. As a person who is mixed, having black in me,i can completely see how he wanted to dismantle every human being who was throwing things or shouting at him for no reason other than the color of his skin, but in another sense i wished that he would have not payed any attention to it at all because once the African victim displayed anger and hostility(even though its warranted) the African victim is solidifying the shallow stereotype that caused the racist rant to begin with. What is a victim to do?Handling such a situation takes practice.Luckily for all,European leagues have this campaign where all of the players(despite race or star quality)are unifying to fight this problem, discouraging the culprits.I didn't notice the world cup having any racist events,as they said they would watch out for it,so perhaps there is progress.Being in America,I'm not exactly sure how the fans in Europe still react to African players, but i hope somehow they mature rapidly.

Well germanyrocks...the great answers are said above. maybe we'll talk about it later.

but to tell you in a straighfoward way, that may be offensive...

1) because the white people have maintain superiority, in almost every aspect of life, they beleive they are the "best"

2) skin colour!

3) people from africa have humbled roots and since they seem "ugly", "basic", and not "smart" (in other words they are being looked as "nothing") they don't want to give hope to them.

the funniest thing i've heard is that (hear this).....black people here in this country actually make fun of their origins and african people! stupidly funny isn't it?

i can go on forever, but i beleive the answers above took the credit. besides i can go on about this topic.

Racism isn't just a football problem, unfortunately it's a part of human nature. Of course I'm not saying all humans are racist. There are quite a few people that just don't like people that have different color skin as they have. Racism is borne from ignorance. It's stupid to thing a person with different color skin is inferior. I was raised in one of the most racist towns in the US under one of the most racist religions. I outgrew the ignorance. Nobody could answer my questions of why blacks are inferior to whites. I found out later in life they aren't.

Racism, unfortunately, exists everywhere. It derives from ignorance and needs a high dose of intelligence medicine -- called EDUCATION -- in order to be cured. The world really needs to wipe out its racism and ignorance!
