In the near future India will surely play the world cup................actually lean physical constitution,tropical climate,incorrect diet regimen and faulty infrastucture are the jeopardizing elements in indian football.moreover the genuine talents remain unspotted and youth from well-to-do families don't get motivated to play the game.lack of exposure,neglect and lack of incentives also demoralize players.
The AIFF needs to wake up to the cause and concentrate on the nursery leagues to bring up new talents.more academies like the Tata Football Academy need to be set up!

The Indian Football Team is trying to do its best to qualify for the world cup.The indian Football Association has taken a project where by which they intend to take part in the world cup where they hope to qualify. This was taken up before the World cup began last year. I guess they intend to be serious competition to the world nations by 2014 . However they are not looking like a force to recon even in the next 3 decades the reason is that they do not have too many fit players and that football is not encouraged from the root level as the children only know cricket.
The infrastructure that is available is also very negligible and this is not a good way of promoting the sport. The Government should make a very concious and sincere effort to promote the game only then will the game develop . They should have more tournaments and also they should give good rewards to encourage in this field.
The money that the players receive is also not of great impetus to get someone to take up the sport.
Hope that the steps are followed and the team will reach the world cup and some day bring it back home.

I Think Indians have good potential in them because they are slowly doing good i all sports as you can see Sana mirza;humpy and other Indians slowly coming up!!! i am a football fan too and i play(football) for Hyderabad sporting club. the MCH corporation is doing good in order bring this game to India.by the way a special mention "VIKASH DOORSHAH" OF INDIA IS PLAYING FOR THE FRANCE TEAM AND HAS ALSO MADE HIS DEBUT IN THIS WORLD CUP!!!!!!
so lets hope that maybe after 5 years maybe we might have a football team!@!@

India actually qualified for the 1930 World Cup but opted out as FIFA didn't allow players playing with barefoot. Comin back to your question, I think there is a greater chance of a Monty Panesar century in twenty20 cricket than India qualifying for 2010 WC

No chance.. Fifa should through out india from the fifa rankings..even the other countries who doesnot comply with the minimum infra and commitment so so for football... It is so ridiculous that all the I-League teams doesnt has academy , their own ground and U-17, U-19, U-15 team...and they play professional football...a bunch of morons sitting over there and so is the federation,...
