I don't think you quite understand the human body... The human brain is very complex - the way you have 'worded' your question - you are limiting all of us to answer just that part of it. In reality, the human brain is the most complex part of our body. We only ever use a small percentage of our brains, but the signalling process is something which neurons in the brain do. The signal-processing by neurons are not only extremely fast, but are also only a small thing in comparism with the whole brain.
Also, it's not a 'closed loop' as we are constantly learning new things or required to remember things or actions. This requires information being brought to the individual...
The way neurons work, they communicate within a fraction on a instant with the rest of one's body, allowing us to do things, think, breathe... etc. They do all the communicating with the whole body - without the need for us to actually THINK in order to move. Our acts are not an illusion, but rather the result of a process of communication between brain and body.

Our Brain receives signal and process it. But for a possible input there are n no of input, To be precise it has n inputs and n output synapses.
And there are theories which say it largely depend upon environmental factor and aging, to process different signal.
U can say vision, hearing, smell is illusion that your brain interpreted your light, vibration and chemical reaction uniquely processed in your brain to make to output called feel.
If say i pass a signal called smell to your brain in age of 20, age of 40 and age of 60 at different interval of time at 10:00 am, 12.00 P.M and 5:00 am, you will feel the signal entirely different from one another, due to output levels of other affecting signals.
If u say perceive and act is just illusion, then answer to the question why do we ask question "WHY", and we get different answers most of the time.
Hope i am not confusing and, i want to be to your point may be next time when i transceive your signal i will get entirely new set of answers.
Point is you can say it illusion, when u describe exactly what is illusion in terms of signaling of brain. Describe illusion as set of neuro transmission.

No, if we had closed loops of signals, we would never get any new thoughts or ideas, and our emotions would be quite diminshed. Our brains are a miracle and and their intricities (sp?) are amazing! So amazing that they enable each and everyone one of us to be different from each other. And there's the known fact that we only use a small portion of our brains: 7%? 10%? something like that. We can't even begin to wonder what our brains are truly capable of!

we are just organic molecules that like to hang out together for mutual benefit. What you act upon is just a basic set of instructions that have been programmed into you from a young age by society and your parents that make you react in a certain way to a certain stimulus. Dull isnt it.
As for what we are based upon the whole soul and consiousness thingy well your guess is as good as mine. theologians have been trying to answer that for millenia and are still arguing over what the question really is. The answer lies within and not in any book editted by preists. have a hunt you`ll learn something

It can't be a closed loop, or even a series of closed loops because your senses are receiving information from the outside environment much of the time - light, temperature changes, contrasts, smells, sounds of all kinds etc. From these sensory inputs, your brain makes sense of them and yes, it does involve changes of energy from one form to another e.g. light energy to electrochemical energy in your nervous system. You will also process signals rom inside your body e.g. an awareness of where your limbs are in space, feelings in your stomach, heart beat...etc.
As soon as you change something in response to any/all of the signals, you are changing the inputs again - and so it goes on....

You are what is perceiving these signals.
It is an illusion. It really is. It is a dream. But so what? It's not really a new idea, but one that is overlooked because of the implications.
Row row row your boat
Gently down the stream
Merrily merrily merrily merrily
Life is but a dream.

Your question is purely speculative, and has no rational answer. Consider that to get to point three from point one, you must first traverse point 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/32...etc. There are an infinite number of points to cross, therefore movement is illusory. What is real? Don't worry about it, and have a beer.

We are biocomputers. I am the self meta-programmer and probability estimator. The loop is not closed, we are constantly receiving and processing new information.

It's not a closed loop.
You're constantly getting input from the exterior, provided by your senses.
"Reality" is an agreed-upon common interpretation of sensory input.

The Buddhists call it emptiness. But it does not diminish our significance. The signals are something not nothing.
