They are against funding new lines of embryonic stem cell research...that's a big difference between being against stem cell research in general and it certainly doesn't close the door to private research even in embryonic stem cells. It just is taking a stand where the "government" is willing to put its money.

Because the vatical is against it. It's sad really. I'm a conservative, and I think we need more stem cell research. When it comes to science vs. religion, I almost always vote for science.

Not all of us are against it. I think that the main problem deals with embryonic stem cell research and the concept of the property rights of the embryo.

Okay it's not stem cell research they are against. It's embryonic stem cell research. There is a major different.

When the stem cell is taken from a live fetus, you are committing murder. They are not against stem cell research, they are against taking a life to perform it.

For one of two reasons :
1) They don't know a loved one who could benefit from the research.
2) They don't have enough empathy for the ones that could benefit from the research.

That has to do with the religious right believing that life begins the second a sperm engages a female egg... that a fertilized embryo is life... meaning they believe it is murder.
