It means that you should have respect for people that are different from you, whether that be by race, ethnicity, or religion. And you should make it a point to understand where the other person is coming from,(why they believe what they do).

It means that we should practise tolerance as we are of a diverse lot and come from all walks of life. With greater understanding, parties of different beliefs, cultures or thinking are able to get along well together. Worst comes to worst, at least we are able to agree to disagree, if things come to a standstill.

you and me are different. u have your opinions / ways of doing things etc. u respect mine and i'll respect yours. i'll not impose my values upon u and likewise with u. in doing so, we promote understanding and we understand each other better and we respect each other's difference and yet able to live with it.
