I personally am deeply ashamed that I'm even from the same country as he is after seeing what a mess he's making of my country.

It's a sad commentary on our nation. We claim to defend free speech...but what we mean is only free speech that we agree with at a given time and place.

Examples go way beyond the Dixie Chicks. I mean c'mon, there's no outcry when Cheney uses an explitive that has no place in the Capitol and then there are people even now in the media who say stupid, hateful things and suddenly have to check into rehab to make it right with everyone else.

You know what, free speech is free speech...if John Rocker, or the dude on Grey's whatever wants to rant...then go for it. We don't have to listen and we certainly don't have to like it...but guess what...we have to tolerate it.

The uproar was because Country Western fans are, for the most part, quite conservative. The Dixie Chicks are a country western group and not only insulted the President but basically dissed all those fans that supported him. Their fan base felt understandably betrayed and turned their backs on them.

Imagine Barbara Streisand doing a fund-raiser for the 700 Club or the RNC. Think there might be an uproar among her Lib friends?...Yup.

Idiotsres...haha.. good answer..most of these folks only think about the one thing at a time that is making headlines on that particular day, maybe that is all they can do at one time. The dc should not have disgraced the USA like that, especially in a foreign country. I do believe in the freedom of speech but, there is a time and a place for it. If a group had of done something like that in WWI or WWII, they would probably have been prosecuted for treason or at least asked to leave the country.
As far as the folks that say the Iraqi people do not deserve what we are doing to them, we are not the ones' killing them. The insurgents are killing them and then the insurgents are preying on the bleeding hearts in this country to try to make us pull out because of it. They are doing what they have done best for many years, spin tales and publicize it with the twist to make it look like someone else is doing it or causing it. Sadam did the same thing for years. Wake up folks. Like Idiotsre...said, Bush has helped this country immensely, with the help of the Republican House and Senate, and although I may not agree with every little thing he has done, overall he has done a really great job. Don't get tunnelvision on one item that the opposition would like you to. Look at the whole picture. Dixie Chicks, I feel for yall and your career, but, you allowed the girl to bring it on yourselves.

You people shouldn't be ashamed of what that arrogant man is doing. Actually, I don't think that people should directly blame Bush so much.

The man seriously believed the Saddam had WMDs, and that he was the biggest threat to world peace. Even Democrats like John Kerry and Hillary Clinton believed that.

As far as what has happened to the information regarding the destruction of Saddam's weapons, I would say that it is a very big mystry.

Are there any investigations regarding that? I don't see any. And Bush's stupid decisions don't comply with anything that has happened over the years and what is still happening!

I think some very sinister things went on inside US politics and the Middle East that contributed to such a disaster. The Iraqi people don't deserve what they are currently going through.

I think that Americans should think a bit carefully, and see things through. I would suggest keeping a very close eye on organizations such as AIPAC.

Regarding what Dixie Chicks said, isn't freedom of speech a key attribute in any Democracy? Freedom of speech as long as it levels to decency and respect. Does Bush deserve respect after all that he has started? I doubt it.

Don't know what he wants out of all that's going on in Iraq.

When U.S troops entered Iraq, it drew strong reactions, both from people in favor of the decision and from those opposed to it. Some anti-war celebrities - including Natalie Maines of Dixie Chicks were so adamant about exerciseing their freedom of speech that they forget an important point: Just because you have the right to express your opinion doesn't mean it's always wise or healty to do so. Especially when a lot of americans were in surport of the war.
For anyone who missed it, Maines told a London audience she was ashamed that the president was for the state of Texas. Within days, many country radio stopped playing the band's songs. And that comment tarnished the band.
But now people can see that she was somewhat right and she has the privilege of sitting back and saying "i told you so"

It upsets me to think that this country could have gone completely in another direction, had Al Gore won the electoral vote.

The uproar was definitely expected, but I'm sure glad she said it. I think people got offended when they realized that not everyone was on board with the war-- at first, it kind of seemed like EVERYONE supported it. So what the Dixie Chicks said just kind of shocked a lot of people, at a time when patriotism and freedom fries were fashionable.

The Dizzie Chix do have the right to say whatever they want! The problem comes from the fact that they are Country and Western stars and so there fans are "C&W" too! C&W folks are 99% PRO USA and so they choose to ignore the Dizzy Chix and not go to the shows excercising their freedom of choice!!

Because they chose to do it out of the country. It is ok to air dirty laundry at home, but not in public. You have a right to be ashamed. I have a right to appreciate it that President Bush is a visionary person that will stand and defend this country even though a bunch of appeasers want to cut, run and surrender. We fight them there or here.

there shouldn't have been , after all aren't we about free speach? I never really listened to them until they comment was made, as I am not a big country music fan, but after I did , I bought every cd they had out! I am also quite distrubed by the actions of GWB, and I wish he would resign.

Yeah you're right, he's making a huge mess of the Country. Inflation and unemployment down, economy booming, no attacks on America soil since 9/11 but plenty of them foiled, taxes lowered, more tax breaks coming. How dare he do things like that? Oh, by the way, HERE'S YOUR SIGN!!!
