I am a naturally very skinny person I try very hard to put on weight but so far have not got anywhere.I hate how the media has now turned on skinny people saying they look horrible and uugly, how is that supposed to make me feel? I understand that they are saying it because theydont want normal weight people to become skinny but I think it is a bit cruel to ruin my self esteem at the same time.

By the way my misspelling of discrimination was a typo not stupidity.

I have the same problem! I think the attempts to steer people away from eating disorders and things is going slightly the other way because it makes us NATURALLY slim people feel like unattractive bean poles!! So, do we start binging on truckloads of food in order to put on weight?! I haven't got a problem with my weight except that I could maybe put on a couple of pounds, but it's hard to do that no matter how much I eat. I would rather be slim - naturally slim, that is. As long as you're happy with your weight, forget what others say.

I am very skinny too, I cannot put on weight whatsoever like you (I have a BMI of 8), I was not aware that being skinny was now a bad thing. Perhaps pay attention to your life and not that of celebrities and the media.

At the end of the day, you will be the one laughing at age 30, when all your mates have beer bellies and you still look thin and healthy - One advantage of being skinny I find, is that you don't have to work out to have a six pack, it just shows through naturally. - You can put on weight by working out and building up muscle, although if your'e like me there may not be any change for at least a year- just keep it up.

Ignore the press, only a few months ago, and for several years before that, skinny was the way to go as far as the press were concerned, they just say what they think the public want to hear to allow them to sell papers. To say that someone is ugly just cos they are skinny is a load of bulls**t and far too general a statement to make. Don't let the buggers get to you, they will pick on some other body form soon and generalise about them. As for me I prefer thinner ladies, not a statement against the larger female form, just a personal thing.

No the media discriminates everyone, fat, skinny, tall, short it doesn't matter. I wouldn't worry about it. For every one person you say is beautiful I'll give you ten who say the exact opposite. The only reason the on skinny people now is because:
1) Deaf and Anorexia is on the rise.
2) It makes people buy magazines
3) There tired of picking on fat people
Give it a year or so and they'll be on something else.

i totally agree with you, as i too think it's a good idea to encourage people to be more healthy, and the celebrity status holds a status in many teenagers lives, thus leading them to believe they need to look like that in order to be somebody, but there should be a medium balance, no one can say a size 12 is skinny, but they can't say size 0 is healthy either. there should be a normal person for this kind of campaign, celebs get ridiculed for being bigger than the average 8. My sister is a size 6, she is anorexic but not to the point where she deliberately refuses food, but she can go for days without eating and is very fussy, she knows she has a problem, and she, like yourself has tried to put on weight, she tried complan and eating loads of junk food, but she still wasn't putting on weight, her worse problem is when she does eat, and someone watches her, or makes the slightest comment that she won't eat it, then she won't eat it, if she is left alone and ignored, she is fine a few weeks ago she actually ate a whole meal. she has put on a little weight the last month, and that's due to eating regular meals and balancing it out with crisps, i know it not healthy, but she feels good about herself, i know how u must be feeling, and i wish u luck

I'm a skinny person too, size 6-8.I'm perfectly happy the way I am and have no intentions of trying to gain weight because other people say I look too thin. Its the way I am, I'm happy with it and quite frankly, whats it got to do with them. Fair enough if young girls are starving themselves to be skinny, I agree thats not on, but we are 'normal weight' for us.

It's not skinny people, it's those with eating disorders that look like famine victims. As you know, there's a HUGE difference.

There are people like yourself out there with a high metabolism that can't put on weight no matter what they eat. Likewise, there are people out there with a low metabolism who gain 3 stones by sniffing a Big Mac.

The problem lies with those models who literally starve themselves to remain thin.

Perhaps, if the media and the population in general weren't so judgemental, then people would be happier with themselves and not feel that they are "too fat", "too thin", "too ugly" or whatever!

If you do not fit the norm then people feel they can discriminate against you. If you were a few pounds heavier then people might comment instead on your hair colour, skin colour, accent, class, where you live and on and on. If you were overweight you would face it too. So just ignore it and be happy with who you are and what you look like.

Good luck!

I know what you mean..it makes me mad that it happens too. Its sad that celebrities have to be the center of attention and people have to always put them down, but also shatters us. I try not to let it bother me though because everyone has their imperfections.. no one thinks of themselves are the cutest or skinniest or w/e it is. If they do then they are obviously self centered and know that theres something they don't like about themselves. Ignore the media.
