With the majority of congress - including a growing number from his own party against him?

Get real - if George Bush attempted to suspend elections in the USA there would, for the first time since the 60s be some genuine protests and more likely an actual uprising.

Who can discount such possiblility?. In many third-world countries, this is exactly what dictators had been doing to stay in power. First, circumvent the constitutional provisions and all checks-and-balances. Second, pass legislations that will curb personal freedoms. The result?. You'll have a leader who wields unprecedented power, who adopts his personal decisions as the official policy of the whole nation. Not even the majority in congress can stop him now. Just look how powerless the congress is really is.

Now I can see the nation slowly being transformed into a police state.

That seems to be what he is doing. First they will draw Iran into the battle, and that will create the necessary "emergency" for suspending elections "until the danger is passed." It is the logical next step to the progression they have followed from the beginning. Once they defeat Iran they will control all the oil in the Middle East along side the Saudi Prince, a long time Bush family friend.

A resounding "NO" to the question. Even if he creates such a scenario, I think learned Americans are not so gullible anymore. They will kick him out of the power. Now everyone understands and acknowledges what the mess he has created for them and for their country. For the first time in history, their power is diminished and loosing its credibility fast.

Yep, your right, that's exactly it. He is making people blow themselves up that hate him so he can stay President. He is making a guy that claims he would rather die a marter fighting for his religion hide like a coward and force people to blow themselves up so there families will be taken care of financially. Wow, you figured it out. Bush's plan has been brought to light. Now, we can run around yelling and screaming that he lied and people died and stupid stuff like that.

Now, let's get to some real good for our country, work together to actually make this country a better place rather than buying into the Left and Right BS that they feed you that you carry out for them and enable them to use for their own political gain.
