Grease spots and other discolorations must be Absorbed out of the surface. You can buy a commercial absorbant for that purpose but regular talcom powder works just as well. First spot those with talcom power covered overnight with a sheet of paper and a wood weight. That will draw out the grease from the spots.
Then you can clean with 50/50 denatured alchol water mixture and a wash cloth or towel works best.
Surface damage can be removed using 2000 grit wet dry paper used wet.

Dont use vinager...
I am in the cleaning business and here is our secret!
Try this cleaning cloth. You have to buy in packages of 5 but they are only like $3 bucks a piece. I have ordered them and use them on everything, especially cleaning windows and clean mirrors. They are made out of tiny fibers. They are guaranteed not to scratch and all you do is rinse the cloth under water, wring it out and wipe ANY surface with no streaks or scratch. Use em over and over. I have not thrown one away yet!
I even waxed my car with it! I am sold on this ...I encourage you to try it out.

Be careful with the nail polish remover and acetone. I have the same problem and am still having problems with getting the gloss back. I suspect the stone is coated with a clear varnish like material so the solvents will only make it worse. Will be watching this one to see if anyone knows what the gloss is. Hope we have success!!

as long as it doesn't have an abrasive compound in it, you should be ok useing it. granite does have a finished surface, so don't use anything to scratch it.
