Why don't they grow longer and tighter? Maybe we could still get some wear out of them then.

Intelligent answers would be appreciated. Stupid comments don't count, this is a genuine query.

it's because of the way the fabric is cut originally, and the direction of the bias. it's kinda hard to explain the internet without showing you a picture. basically, fabric is cut and made into garments that we can wear, aka.. allow us to move. our body's twist and turn horizontally rather than vertically during most of our daily activities (such as when we breathe, our chests expand outward instead of upward) so that's why fabric is cut a certain way and placed together with the bias in a certain direction. if it weren't for that, and it were the opposite way around, your clothes wouldn't be as wearable as they are now.

this is what the bias is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bias_%28textile%29

I`d also like to know as well, it brasses me off.
What I do is to just wash by hand or on a very delicate cycle and don`t fully spin out, leave it quite wet, so that when you hang it on a hanger, inside out, all the water runs to the bottom and the weight of the water lengthens it. See if that helps, things, it has worked for me most times.
