I tried to move away, but Oregon always sucks me back. Not gone for long.
My parents and sisters moved here from the Penn state before I was born of course.
Mr. is from the Penn state as well.

We have everything here in Oregon. Do not like the rain, move east. Want to mountain climb, ski, like the beach, ranch life, city life, small town living or city living We have hunting, camping, fishing. Oregon has it.

I'd say CALIFORNIA! Both the northern AND Southern parts of the state are great. Those people that said Northern CA forgot that's it's not its own state, most people live in Southern CA too. I grew up in the bay area and have lived in southern cal for 6 years now. CA has pretty much anything you want to do; forests, moutnains, valleys, lakes, rivers, deserts, beaches. In SoCal you can surf and snowboard in the same day if you want. NorCal has tons of nice ski resorts too. We have some of the best weather, Southern CA has the best weather in the country, it's not too hot or cold, not humid, and doesnt rain that often. Great natural scenery like Yosemite, Death Valley, Big Sur Coast, redwood forests, ect.. And we have some of the best cities; SF, LA, and San Diego. It's expensive to live here but it's worth to all 35 million of us.

"Big Sky Country"
Montana.
~~ I have travelled all over every one of the states and this is my favourite!
(Though secretly, I do profess a weakness for Oregon)
The only thing missing in Montana is the ocean.
~~ Never mind, it makes up for it in scenery and wide-open spaces.
~~ Another great thing about Montana is it's close proximity to other beautiful states - Idaho, Sth Dakota, Wyoming.
Then there is this whole other country to the north - Canada.
~~ And let's not forget:
Three entrances into the (magical) Yellowstone National Park
The (stunning) Missouri Breaks
Glacier National Park
The majesty of the Rockies
Country charm, friendliness (probably so because they live in the best state!) and hard-working ethics of the Montanans.
~~ Montana has a low population density; making it easy to get around, little polution, low crime rate.
All this (in my opinion) make it the best US state to live in.

I really liked it in Washington state, in the olympia area. I liked the people, the area was beautiful, the occasional earthquake (no, really, it was cool) You have the pacific ocean to one side, the cascades, and the open east side. I really liked it and hope to move back someday.

I don't like SC too much tho

Frankly I prefer the state of Denial.

It means that no matter where you live, you'll believe it's great!

However; if you forced me to pick I'd go with Northern California.

Oregon.
Summers aren't too hot, winters arent too cold. You can reach the ocean, mountains, desert, river, lakes, and forests in less than a couple hours.
Fresh fruits in the summer.
No Sales Tax
Never have to get out of your car to pump gas
Strip clubs show bush.
Come and visit, but don't stay...sorry.

Most states really have a lot going for them these days, thanks to about 25 years of economic growth in the US.

My favorites are:

Wisconsin.............overall (strong in all areas)
New Mexico..........beauty, mild weather
North Carolina......overall
Maine...............beauty, quality, pace of life, not overly congested
Kentucky.........suprising quality, pace of life, weather
South Carolina......charm, peaceful
Idaho...................quality, undiscovered, Bosie
New York.............city
Wyoming.............unmatched beauty, isolated
Montana.............beauty with several attractive towns
Minnesota........overall (good in all areas--cold winter/hot summer
Hawaii.........
Virginia.............southern charm
Oregon............overalll
Northern California...........(not SF) pace of life, beauty, weather
Iowa.........................overall
Up Michigan...........peaceful
----------------------------
These are my favorites. I have been to 46 states and lived in 5 different states. Each has a strength and weakness, I tried to give you ones that either have a portion of "it all" or have a tremendous strength on one particular area.....such as Hawaii, beach life, warm comfortable weather.

I tend to prefer places that offer a lot for your dollar, are not polluted or over crowded or have aging infrastructures. Decent, but not red hot growth is another preference.
