someone would be afraid of the dark?

no one is afraid of anything, until he has been fed with data that, something is wrong, bad of not good then people get afraid if that. darkness is associated with 'no light", or "emptiness" and that makes human beings feel inadequate, inturn making poeple making fearsome of the dark or unknown

Reasons differ for each person. But the common reason is that it is not the dark that they are afraid of, it is what is IN the dark that scares them. Lots of bad things happen in the dark. You can't see in the dark, so the imagination takes over and fear is the most common reaction. Not knowing what is there.

Cause you can't see your surroundings in the dark like you can in the light and society has learned us to believe that the bad things such as ghosts, monsters, vampires, etc, usually come out at night. Also, in the night you have nightmares that may make you afraid of the dark cause you associate your fear of these dreams with nighttime.

Because the dark is the unknown. Lots of people are afraid of what they can't see.The dark is closely associated with negativity from a young age.. when the badguys come out, when bad things happen, etc.

Fear of the unknown. When it is light you have a better perception of threats around you but in the dark your mind is free to make up all sorts of 'monsters' out to get you. I'm sure it is a throwback from our cave-man days when there really was a reason to be scared of the dark- predators.

People are just naturally afraid of things they don't have very much knowledge about. Knowledge kills fear, when it's dark, you can't see. Therefore you don't know a lot about what's around you, you aren't in the know, so you're scared. You don't know what's going to happen in the dark. You might trip and fall, or you might wander around aimlessly forever. But when it's light, you can see everything clearly, you know what's around you, and so you feel safer.

abuse. monsters. the unknown. rapists. murderers. robbers. wild animals. stumbling over foreign objects. boogeymen. you name a fear and it could always happen in the dark. not having the vision to see an attack or pain or conflict. why fear anything? "the dark" is a perfect arena for any fear

they would be afraid of the dark because its a absense of light. We are creatures light by nature.

i dunno i'm still afraid of the dark and i'm in college =/ It's hard to explain i just don't like the dark but i don't mind being outside in the dark it's just inside when it's dark that i don't like.
