on oprah last week she sed it is true story and she wont tell anyone -hmmm ?????????

it's been said that the song is about any number of people....mick jagger, james taylor, cat stevens, kris kristofferson, and william donaldson. but i find it odd that mick jagger would do back-up vocals for a song bashing him, don't you? reportedly, she has said that the song is a combination of many different men in her life.

Yes he did. If you go onto carly's website it gives the full story, but apparently she was recording in the UK and she invited him to the studio, and they started playing around with the song and the guy originally due to sing back up said you guys sound great let mick do it. that's how it went down. and no, "your so vain' is not about Mick, that was a hot rumor that carly killed in an interview

I always assumed it was Warren Beatty. A few years ago Carly auctioned off the answer for charity, provided the winning bidder agreed never to reveal who it was.
Can't remember how much the winning bid was either!
