...if you were standing is line at the grocery store and the person in front of you was paying and dropped paper money on the ground and didn't see it fall, would you say something? Or if someone was walking by you and dropped money on the ground would you turn around and try to take it back to them? Or keep it and not say anything?

To members who wonder about me...I would give it back no matter what and have had instances where I would be at the ATM and would see a card laying close by or still sticking out of hte machine and I would take it in to a teller/customer service.

This has happened a few times and I either say something or hand the money to them. A lady actually drove away from the (drive thru) atm at the bank one night, leaving a stack of $20's in the machine. I had to follow her with my car to give her the money.

These instances have happened to me before. I used to work in retail and people used to drop money from their wallet by the register all the time. It depends on how much money it is. HONESTLY, there have been times when I've kept a few dollars. But if it was like 10 bucks or more or something, I would give it back... and I have. I just think about the bad karma I'd get. That could be someone's lunch money for like the rest of the week and I was taking it. That would suck if that was me. But if it was like 5 dollars, then, i guess that would be ok. 5 Dollars is kinda minor.

I would tell the person. Once I walked out of the grocery store without paying for some sodas on the bottom of the cart. I actually went back the next day and payed for them. :)

For me it has depended more on how the person looked than on how much money it was. If they've looked like a hood who just stole the money anyway, I've kept it. But if its been some hardworking old woman trying to make ends meet, I've given back the money - even a lot of money.

I would let them know in both cases. Hey it's not my money. It's their's, and they accidently dropped it. Sometimes the difference between that stranger returning the dollar bill you dropped and him keeping it, is whether or not your kids get fed that night. I sometimes drop money when I pull my bus pass out and although I usually know it, somebody has always told me first before I could pick it up. I live in a pretty good town.

I would return the money to someone who dropped it. However, if the same amount of money was given to be by a cashier, I probably wouldn't give it back, unless I really thought she would get into trouble for her register being "off."

Depends on the amount. If it were a million dollars, I would give most of it back, but keep 100 grand as a finder's fee.

If they were there, I'd tell them. I would want someone to do the same thing for me. I admit though, I once found $20 on the ground in my apartment complex and kept it...

If I count the money I have found in my lifetime, it will probably go over five grand: NOT because I didn't give it back, but because nobody was there to claim for it.
