You need malaria tablets for some of the coastal areas and other low-lying areas in the country. You don't need them in you are in Masai Mara or some of the other higher altitudes. You start taking the tablets before you travel. You should also have your vaccinations up to date -- tetanus, hepatitis and typhoid primarily.
Wash your hands frequently, drink bottled water (make sure the seal is good), and be careful of some fruit and vegetables. The fruit is amazing and definitely drink some fresh passion fruit juice.

I didn't think Kenya was that cheap to live (it may be as a tourist), since I paid for imported quality of items (i.e. a good, non-stick pan). I'm American and I'd say the prices are more in line with contintenal Europe. Of course, you can find budget travel and crappy souvenirs...but to stay in the decent places, buy nicer gifts, it was equivalent of Europe. There are cheaper parts of Africa...but downtown Kenya has great souvenir shops with stuff from all over Africa.

Kenya has a lot to see and do. The Indian ocean coastline is beautiful..Amazing white sand. Snorkelling...The safari parks are a must and are best in the months of July-Oct/Nov. I think the wildebeest migration is usually September and that brings out more predators. I found that you usually got better safari deals inside Kenya than from abroad. Downtown there are some reputable companies that put together nice trips. I recommend Star Travel (and if a guide named Wilson is still there, highly recommend him!) If you have a friend living in Kenya, they can do some of the organising and get resident rates for some of the nice hotels. There's another car company, Jim's Cab, that you can hire to drive you around Nairobi or elsewhere. Recently, I've had long (i.e. 12 hour) layovers in Nairobi and I arrange for a car to pick me up at the airport, drive me around sights and shopping in Nairobi, and back to the airport for about 75 USD. There's probably similar companies but that's one my company uses.

It's wet during May-June-early July.

health wise, get all your immunizations (yellow fever, tetnus, hepatitis) and make sure to bring mosquito repellant, especially if you're going to opt out of taking malaria preventatives. Sun screen, lots of water while you're there (depending on where you are make sure you treat it or boil it for cleanliness). As far as fun goes, if you're in Nairobi, go to either City Market on Koinage street or Masaai Market on Tuesdays and Thursdays and have fun bartering for goods (always begin with half of what they ask for first, especially if you're mzungu - white). The weather depends on the time of year. The rainy season begins in April or so and lasts a couple months. Otherwise I never really felt overheated except when out in the bush, and in that case, listen to your guides; they know how to stay cool!!! It's not expensive, you can stay in a hostel (YMCA right near University of Nairobi costs about $5 a night), a decent meal will run you a couple bucks, matatus are only about 35 shillings (pennies).... you can spend a lot if you go to the high class places, but if you're going to kenya to experience kenya, stay local and enjoy!

If you are just going for a beach holiday then you just need to make sure your normal vaccinces are up to date ie tetnus, typhoid etc. If you plan to go on Safari then you should consult a doctor to see if you need malaria tablets not all regions need them I didnt for mine to the Maasi Mara.

Kenya is generally hot year round and is extreamly beautiful country to travel to. It is not expensive once you are there and you are sure to have a great time.

If you do plan to do a safari I would highly recommend that you go on a hot air balloon ride over the Maasi as this is a once in a lifetime experience that you will never forget. Seeing all the wildlife blows your mind away.

Tommy, Kenya is a very nice country plenty to do and see. I visit Kenya ones a year to do some big game fishing and enjoy myself everytime. Take your malaria pills and only buy bottle water and you will be fine. Yes Kenya is very cheap

Not generally expensive. You can haggle with most trades people. Tourists can be ripped off at craft and souvenir shops. As for fun, have you a safari arranged? Will you be at the coast? You can try out watersports at the coast. Healthwise you need jabs-lots of them. Yellow fever, typhoid, cholera, tetanus, hepatitis A. You also need polio immunity checked, malaria tablets, insect repellent, sunblock.

health wise: get your malaria treatment right, drink only mineral water from the bottle you buy, and do not go eating in funny places, there are loads of good restaurants around town, do not eat in the streets.
their money is worth average 1$=75 kenyan shillings. depending on what you want to buy, it is not that expensive.
the weather now is hot, average 25 degrees, but very pleasant because of the high altitude of nairobi. onthe coast, it may be humid as well, but evening are breezy and fresher. just take cotton clothes, maybe one light jumper, because it can get colder if it rains, or if you are in the safari areas at night.
plenty of fun there, beaches on the coast, safaris, night life, just be cautious, and always walk around with your guide, or do not go alone to unknown place. do not carry your valuables or passports with you when you go shopping, leave them in a safe box in the hotel.
