It wasn't much of a surprise that she won. I mean, this girl never says die -- she never gives up, eventhough her opponent is serving for the match and has match points. Look at the way she came back from the brink of defeat after trailing Nadia Petrova 1-6 and 3-5, she absolutely picked up her game right there and then. She proved it again in the quarterfinals against Shahar Peer, trailing 5-6 in the decider with Peer serving for the match -- she did what she had to do at that moment and broke serve. Yet again against Nicole Vaidisova, trailing 4-5 in the first set with Vaidisova serving out the set and having set point -- she turned the match around when she had to do so cos players like Vaidisova get disheartened when they lose a close fought first set, and it showed in the second set... although Vaidisova almost made a comeback. So, you are right. She definitely won in style. Sharapova wasn't in the match at all.

yes i am so happy she won.never been her supporter but she is playing really well and even when she has almost lost she suddenly comes back into the match and wins it.anyway sharapova is nothing in front of serena and serena absolutely crushed her.
go serena!

Watching Serena play Jankovic in the 4th round, I believed she (Serena) could win the crown. I was right, she's back!!!

It's unbelievable.. After so many years Serena has regained her old form and is playing better after each match! Hope Venus comes back too!!

I am so happy for her. I really wanted her to win but I truly felt Sharapova would take this one.
I am so glad I was wrong - Never, ever underestimate Serena.

yes she such a fighter!!!..i was so happy that she won but kinda felt sorry for maria even though i dont even like her...serena dedicated this win to her older sister that died few year ago..go serena!!

I expected her to reach semis....even in my wildest dreams i didn't think of serena winning this year's australian grandslam....gutsy performance and phenomenal stuff from her...

I never thought she was finished. All the woman has to do is reflect on her past and the positives and she will have it all. She can be unstoppable.
