i don't smoke grass---haven't for years now. i don't think it is a primary cause of depression. it could probably add to the depression or maybe alleviate it some, but i think the main causes of depression would probably be found somewhere else than solely as a result of marijuana use.

It can be a symptom as someone said, but YES, it can also cause depression. Generally after about a month, those effects should go away (as I understand it anyway). So, quitting at first wouldn't see immediate improvement. And it's DEFINITELY no guarantee it'll go away, but it might be one less contributing factor. If you're depressed, or you know someone who is, you should see a doctor and be honest with them.

Marijuana use can be a symptom of depression...a depressed person self-medicates. But the pot is not the cause.

you will find that when you stop using any mind altering drug that it will have an effect on you.. Please give it some time.. it will pass... Soon you will have your mind back.. and it will be better then being drugged out and sitting out life... Most people I know that smoked marijuana and did not quit are still dressing and acting like they did 20 years ago when they started.. I am serious.. your brain just does not function...stay clean and off marijuana and it will be better in the future.. just hang in there.. and good luck :)

Yes, it can cause depression and do even more to your brain. If you stop, it may go away. Some people with depression choose to take drugs thinking it will help them, but it doesn't. Then they move on to others drugs and need more and more to feel better. They get trapped. The emptiness needs to be filled from within. I suggest God. They also need counseling. I went to a Christian counselor and worked on my relationship with God. I pray, read the Bible, and go to church. I'm 100% better after struggling for more than half my life with depression. God Bless!

It did for me.

You see, some people can do it, and some people can't. I couldn't because if I did, I was paranoid and depressed. But shortly after I quit I became a Christian. And now I am happy to say, " I don't want to kill myself anymore! " lol

Was that TMI?
