Dreaming of giving birth ( when in real life it is highly unlikely) means a new life , a new beginning. It may be that your family is going through major ghanges right now or will be very soon. The fact that it was so painful for you tells me that the changes that are coming are not going to be easy. the "husband" in the dream may represent a male figure in your life being at the center of the change-upheaval. It is also very significant that your sister had the same dream. The significance depends on when she had the dream , did she have it before or after you? did she have it on the very same night? The fact that you both had the dream tells me that the "changes" will affect the both of you. Dreams of birth usually always mean new life- beginnings.
Dreams are a wonderful tool for allowing us to see how we really feel about whats going on in our lives, and preparing us for what is to come.
Change is possibly the hardest thing for us to deal with in our lives, but our very existence as human beings depends on change, how well we aaccept this change is our choice. When we fight against change it makes it even more painful for us, so ask yourself if your dream was a way of telling you to go with the flow of life and spare yourself the pain. I hope this helps in some way and feel free to contact me in the future if you have any more questions. I would be interested to know when your sister had her dream and if you are the same age or perhaps twins? I am a professional counsellor and practicing reiki therapist, so please fell free to contact me.

I had a similar dream.. husband who wasn't my husband in real life, even my deceased father was there reading a newspaper while I was in labor.. and I was drunk on Vodka in my dream too while I was having a baby (which I would never ever do) but I felt the pain just as much as when I finally did have a child.
A medium told me once that I gave birth to my psychic child.. whatever that means!
