Mutation is simply an alter of DNA (in most cases) that results in different genes or traits of an organism. Now without mutation, species would not evolve. Why? Natural Selection cannot take place unless changes occur that will pass down generations. So mutation has to be repetitive for it to be an improvement. Otherwise in some cases it can be harmful. Evolution is never a defect to correct him. Natural Selection (which is a big part of evolution) is basically things that have a bad trait die, and things that have a good trait live and breed and spreed that good trait. So it always ends in improvement.

Mutation is an improvement if the alterations in the facility or abilities of the organism terminate to a point that allows the organism to function more efficiently. It becomes a defect if the mutation continues to alter the facility as to prevent the organism from functioning in its original context.

I remember a movie wherein the man tested an experimental nano that cures all disabilities. One day his failing eyesight was cured. Next, his body grew shapely muscles. When he took a swim, the nano detected that the man cannot breath under water so it created gills behind the ears. When a scientist wanted to terminate the experiment, the nano detected that the man is in danger so it created a third eye behind his head. The story continues until the man died as a monster.

In any instance that I've observed, mutation has always been a negative factor. I would say it's a defect.

Been watching entirely too many X-men videos !!!!

Mutations are defects and are almost always the bearers of inabilities as opposed to added abilities of any nature !!!

well, mutation is NOT definetly like the one we see in X-MEN and SPIDERMAN.
if it does happen to a human being, it will be
a) good - by making the human more stronger( not that strong to knock off the wall in a second) but yes, the resistance power, life living capability and other things like more immunity to diseases are probably to happen.

b) bad - its more likely the opposit of the above i sated and some more problems like hair probs, poor kidney probs, and other health probs

so mutation is just as how the person experinces.
and yes human beings are gonna undergo mutations.

mutation is a defect
evolution can be both defective or improvment.
