My guess would be, if anyone can really be said to have invented music, it was some caveman who banged a couple of rocks or sticks together in a rhythmic pattern.

no one really "invented it". it's sounds of nature came together and made a wonderful noise that people started calling it music. just because there were no instruments 4.5 billion year ago does not mean there was no music.

I don't think anybody can really invent music. I think it just happened. Somebody said mother nature, but it isn't music till somebody can appreciate it. I think it just happened.

in my humble opinion i think that EVERYTHING makes music. just listen to the wind in an environment with just the wind for example the beach or the top of a mountain

The idea of rythmn is something instinctual in us. So even the first man understood the idea of banging or making sounds as something pleasurable and natural.
It just rolled from there.
