Watch a lot of videos/DVDs with subtitles (English/English), but it's best to have a dictionary at first.

writing, listening and speaking are also good ways to learn English. Reading is important, but only as a way to learn grammar and build vocabulary. A newspaper can be your text book. The best way is to find an native English speaker to tutor you. Talk and learn. Listen and learn. The most important part is the desire you bring to learn.

Americans have been fighting this same problem for years!
True...we have our own version of the language in the USA, which is looked down upon by the British. We tend to be less precise in our pronunciation, and even less precise in our choice of words if the internet gives any clue.
I would definitely suggest reading books. To sound more "American," read things that are more lowbrow, like magazines, or entertainment pages on the internet.

You can try to speak English first although is broken English !
You need to have the courage to speak to others !
When you speak, only you will learn from others !
