im not sure if this has something to do with my running ccleaner but my ipod is suddenly not connected to my laptop. i did not plug in the ipod to other computers or associate it with other itunes library. do i need to uninstall and reinstall itunes? what will happen to the songs in my library?

sounds like a defective USB cable to me, or the Apple cellular gadget drivers are undesirable. If reinstalling the drivers doesnt paintings, then you definately've a bad cable. you could replace it for approximately $10. itunes is just another program that is full of bugs, i dont understand how to use the program and its not for the basic computer user, u need to pass a uni degree to understand how it works.
