It is hard to know exactly what to say to a friend who is hurting so badly from a loss such as that. The important thing is that you be there for your friend, as he will no doubt go through a roller coaster of emotions.

Just keep the best of intents in what ever you say, be as comforting as possible, and sometimes the best help is to just listen and not say a thing.

If he seems unusually depressed, or if what he says starts to sound scary - like he might do something to himself in his grief - let his parents know or a trusted adult. If he's hiding his emotions from the people that can help him through this hard time - he's not getting the support he needs.

Don't be afraid to ask for help in learning how to help your friend. No one is an expert in dealing with losses, but there are people who can help.
