While I was in labor before I reached the point I could get an epidural they gave me stynol (I think thats how its spelled) I personally don't really think that it did much for pain, it just allowed me to sleep in between contractions. Then I had an epidural. I ended up needing a c-section. As long as I was on the IV and until I could eat solids they have me Demerol shots for pain, then once i could have solids they gave me vicatin. and sent me home with 800 mg Ibuprofen. I probably spelled all those medications wrong but you get the meaning.

While I was at home I didn't have any pain killers (I was at home in labor for 27 hours) and then the first 3 hours at the hospital I didn't have anything either. Finally they came in and gave me an IV and gave me a shot of morphine. She came in to give me 1 more shot, and then once that wore off they broke my water and gave me an epidural. The epidural didn't take away all the pain (just took the edge off) and only lasted about 10 contractions (2 minutes apart.) Since I wasn't progressing that fast they gave me Pitocin to speed things up, and then a spinal block (they thought they were going to have to give me a c-section, but didn't.) Once I got that I felt nothing! It was great. After the birth all I had was Ibuprofen and Tylenol (because I was breastfeeding.)

When I had my daughter I had a shot of morphine, all it did was make my hip(where they injected it) go numb! After I just took regular tylonel. And this was after delivering a 9lb baby!!! With my middle son I had the laughing gas, which only really works because all you do is focus on breathing. My first son was a c-section and I will NEVER let anyone put another needle in my spine again!!! During labor the best thing for pain was balancing on the ball in the shower, the hot water is soooo very soothing!!!!

I had one dose of a pain killer called Nubain while I was in labor and afterwards I didn't need anything except a little ice. Holding my daughter in my arms took my mind off of everything including the little pain I had.

For my 1st child, I had 2 shots of Demerol, which did not work for me. After 2 hours, I got an epidural. After the delivery, I was taking Vicodin for the pain.
For my 2nd child, I asked for the epidural right away and after the delivery I was taking Motrin.
Honestly, if I'm blessed to be pregnant again...I would definitely get the epidural again.
I hope this helps!

Demeral(which made me very sick and didn't help with pain), then epidural. Afterwards I had Children's Advil(I can't swallow pills so I needed the liquid), and I mostly only got the Advil afterwards because I had stitches and swelling.
