deja vu is french for "already seen" -- "deja" means "already", "vu" is the past participle of "voir" which means too see. It referrs to that feeling people sometime get of having been in the same spot, doing the same thing, like reliving a moment.
1. feeling of reliving something: a feeling of having experienced something before, although in fact it is the first time that it has been experienced
Déjà vu once referred exclusively to the illusion of having been somewhere before or having done something before: Entering the house for the first time, she had an eerie sense of déjà vu. Recently, however, it has come to encompass as well the reality of repetitiveness in events or actions: As they began to discuss which route was best, he had a distinct sense of déjà vu. This sense of the word has been extended still further, until the turnaround from the original meaning is almost complete and déjà vu is sometimes also used to describe tedium: Gray winter days bring on déjà vu.

The meaning equates to an Event Happening to You,Around You-Then...One half of The Brain Temporarily shuts down(Nano Second),and the other begins to register the Event.
The part of the Brain that shuts down begins to start working.
Giving the effect that you've Lived/Experienced this Moment/Event Before!
Hope that's Not too confusing!

while experiencing something suddenly you feel as if you are remembering it or reliving it for some odd reason.
could be something mundane. Could just be a synaptic hiccup. who knows what the truth is.
Ive experienced it maybe up to a handful of times in my life and it was always something utterly mundane and insignificant and utterly forgettable by the end of the week.

It means a mysterious feeling of a occurrence that you felt like you experieced before but cannot put your finger on it how you know but it feels that way so much. It could be you are opening a gate and you already done this before but at this exact time and this exact day. Feels so strong like you are reliving a precise day again. You may of done this hundreds of times before but it is this particular time it feels like you lived this day before and done this already.

LIterally, it means "already seen". IN practice it means a feeling that you've been here before, done this before. It is a psychological thing that happens to everybody.
