I don't, that is just a fairytale that people tell themselves to make themselves or others feel better, but those magic words never work

I firmly believe in that idea. I've had a lot of crappy things happen in my life, but I also have had a lot of great things happen, and when I think about the progession of events in my life, I realize that a lot, if not all, of those things would not have happened if it weren't for the bad things happening. Everything has a cause and effect, so anything good that happens to you is probably in some way a result of something bad that happened before. I also believe that God has a plan for you, and if something bad happens to you, it will result in some good later. Just step back and look at your life, and maybe you'll understand.

I have found this to be absolutely true in my life experience! Before I was born, My Mother lost the love of her life in a fatal car crash, If that tragedy hadn't happened I would not be here today!
My 4yr. old daughter would not be here if the attacks on 9-11 had never happened! I was an American Airline Flight Attendant at that time and was scheduled to work flight 11 (BOS to LA) the 2nd plane to hit the World Trade Center that DEVASTATING Tue morning.
I am also a firm believer in changing the things I cannot accept and accepting the things I cannot change!
Character is developed during difficult times and it is your choice how you want to handle each situation that arises in your life.

If that is true I would like to know the reason the father in the news decapitated his four year old daughter to spite the girl's mom. Not to mention the effed up stuff that has happened to me. If that statement is true the higher power is a sadistic bastard and I don't want anything to do with him or her.

I agree, but many people believe that it is line with the religious beliefs in their lives, and want to believe that someone else is controlling events for them. In a sense, it might make good psychological sense though because people will react optimistically to bad situations. In another sense, people saying this might simply believe that free will doesn't exist and that all events are determined. But most do use it in a sappy God and that is, in my opinion, pretty annoying. So you're not alone.

Well, I don't buy some grand design in the sky. But the laws of physics do provide for conservation of energy, and for every action there is an equal but opposite reaction. So there is some sense to it, actually.

Me. I think you have a part to play in what happens in your life. I don't think God causes accidents or bad things only good things.
