There have been studies done on goldfish over 10 year periods and longer testing their memory and recall. It has been shown that they have memories as good as elephants and monkeys and can be trained to do a multitude of various tasks and orchestrated and complicated maneuvers. They have been taught to release levers to get food. Now, people argue well, they don't really care about me, they only do that to get food. But the argument isn't whether they have feelings for you, but that they have the capacity to learn. They have learned that certain faces mean food, which means they are able to recognize individual people.

I basically ought to assert Goldfish have an stunning memory the three 2d memory factor is basically an previous stupid fable. They see you as the two one among course they get maximum excited because of the fact which you're their nutrition source, yet they see you because of the fact the owner except of course the only time you pay interest to them is while your feeding them then your in user-friendly terms a nutrition source. yet while in a fashion a "play" with them then your additionally considered because of the fact the owner. And returned goldfish have truly great memory for this reason why a great style of individuals will prepare their goldfish. lookup movies of experienced goldfish and you will see how incorrect that fable is :)

Goldfish are just trained to know that its feeding time when a human comes up and they get excited.
Most fish are really stupid. Very few fish can recognize their owners. Most of those that can are larger south / central american cichlids like Oscars, Green Terrors, and Jack Dempseys... The ones that act like pets instead of fish.

Not sure if there is any difference in fish but my friend had saltwater fish and when she went on vacation they died because they wouldn't eat for anyone else. One day I went over there at feeding time and had to stay around the corner because my presence made one nervous and he wouldn't come out. As soon as I was out of sight *boom* he was a totally different fish.

goldfish have been taught to ring bells and swim through mazes for food so they have at least a partial brain. they don't have the same recognition my bettas have. my bettas watch me and know when i am going through certain motions its feeding time. my goldfish will swim to the hatch when i go to the goldfish tank but they don't really care for me -- just the food.

I don't think they recognize their owners as much as they recognize that People=Feeding Time. Especially if your mom feeds it in the morning
