natures lights go off at night so yours should two. If you leave the lights on all the time algae will grow and you will spend all your time having to clean it. 8-10 hours of light a day is optimum

For most aquariums, you will want to have the lights on for 10-12 hours per day, however, if you are growing live plants or live corals, you may want to increase this light duration to 12-14 hours per day. I recommend that you get a timer to turn your lights on and off regularly. If the tank is in a room that is not completely dark, the time the lights are on should roughly coincide with the ambient light in the room, so the aquarium lights should be on during the day and off at night. Algae can form from too much light. Good Luck!

You should absolutely turn the lights off at night. Fish need regular sleep intervals in order to be healthy just like you need sleep.

Turning the aquarium lights off at night will save energy as well.

An aquarium isn't a night light.

Turn them off at night.

Plants can't use the light after 12 hours, algae can.

Fish need time to be in the dark on a regular schedule. They will get stressed out without nighttime. Also, some fish thrive in the night.

Its not just a waste of electricity, its unhealthy for your tank.

yes, you should turn off your aquarium light at night because even though most fish don't have eyelids they need sleep. also the light should be on from the time the sun comes up untill it goes down.

Well apparently you should give your fish day and night time frames. So i would give your fish 12 hours of light and 12 hours of day. I turn my light on when i get up and turn it off when i go to bed...

No turn it off I do and the lightbulb will overheat. Plus it's not saving energy when you keep it on. I think fish need a little darkness at times to go to sleep. And it will run up you electricity bill too.

It definitely needs to be off sometime. If you have a tank in your bedroom like I do, it is a fun nightlight so I leave mine on but if your gonna do that I would definitely keep it off all day.

Yes. It makes a more natural habitat and decreases algae growth.
