Rachael, begin with understanding yourself. Recognize that first, you are the best friend you'll ever have. Learn to honor yourself, to love yourself, to accept yourself without judgment. You are truly a wonderful person. Those who don't recognize your greatness are simply imperfect in their perception. If you can truly honor yourself, you will find others will honor you. You will not be concerned about their opinions, what they do or say. They are dealing with their own stuff. Most of us are too busy to worry abou others anyway...so the people you think are looking at you really aren't. They're worrying about how they look to others. Stop worrying about those things, you are important to you. Accept yourself and you will find others will honor you.

I'm in the same boat, I find myself to be very self-conscious as well. I guess the best thing I can tell you is to start living life, and enjoy the big picture. Nothing wrong with being a little self-conscious here and there, but if it's controlling your life..you may want to consider getting help for it, that's what they're there for. Hang out with people that already love you, and make friends who aren't judgmental, you'll be just fine.
