I try to buy a book direclty from amazon.com (not through a thirt party), but it sais that the estimated shipment date is in 4 or 5 weeks. Is this how long it usually takes? Or are they trying to be safe and put the longest possible time?

Directly through Amazon.com shipment arrives pretty early. Your stuffs are shipped probably next business day or 2 after you order.
I mostly received my products in range of 5 days when using free-shipping from Amazon.com.
