what would be really helpful is if you tell us how good you are with computers, how smart is your son with computers, does he have his own and other details. But anyways:

you have a few options

-when you are away, take the internet service provider's Modem with you.

-if it is dialup, take the telephone wire with you (i am assuming he is not smart enough to get another one)

-install web filtering software (net nanny, zone alarm internet security)

-If you can get windows VISTA, it has a whole new set of control features where you can select the times when a certain user can access internet

- Do this at your own risk: If you have a dialup: Click on start, right click on my computer, select properties, click on the 'hardware' tab at the top, click on 'device manager', in the list find 'modems', click the small plus sign in front of 'modems', find the modem, double click on it. in the new pop up at the very bottom of it, disable the modem. click ok or apply. Now the modem won't work, unless you undo what i explained here.

thats all i can think of now. i'll edit this if i think of something else.

1 - Put a password on your computer.

2 - Move the ON/OFF switch to the OFF position.

Or, you can setup a seperate user account for the child which cannot access the internet. You do this in Control Panel, under Add/Remove Programs - Set Program Access and Defaults.

I am assuming you mean inappropriate access? You ISP should and does have blocks you can put on your computer ask them.

If you mean all internet access that is another story. If you still want him to have access to the computer then get rid of your internet connection. Physically disconnect it and hide the cables, if you still want to hook up for your own use.

If you have a pc you should get a login screen at the begining. You might want to consider making a seperate login for your son. You can delete the ability for him to have the server on his login or when he gets old simply add it back on and have the parental controls turned on so he doesn't see anything you don't want him to.

To create a new login, sign into your own first. then click start, settings, control panel, and then user accounts. Click the "create a new account option. Type in the name of the account like "junior" or whatever. Then OK. Then select the icon or symbol to represent him.

Here is also what I pulled up about creating passwords for individual accounts. Generally, the first account made on a computer is the administrator account.

"To create a password for a user account
Passwords add a level of security to your computer. When sharing a computer with others, your customized settings, computer programs, and system resources are more secure when you assign a password to your logon name or user account name.

If you have a computer administrator account and you are creating your own password

Open User Accounts in Control Panel.
Click your user name.
Click Create a password.
In Type a new password and Type the new password again to confirm, type your password.
You can also enter descriptive or meaningful text in Type a word or phrase to use as a password hint to help you remember your password.

Click Create Password.
If you have a computer administrator account and you are creating another user's password

Open User Accounts in Control Panel.
Click the name of the user whose password you want to create.
Click Create a password.
In Type a new password and Type the new password again to confirm, type the user's password.
You can also enter descriptive or meaningful text in Type a word or phrase to use as a password hint to help you remember your password.

Click Create Password.
If you have a limited account and you are creating your own password

Open User Accounts in Control Panel.
Click Create a password.
In Type a new password and Type the new password again to confirm, type your password.
You can also enter descriptive or meaningful text in Type a word or phrase to use as a password hint to help you remember your password.

Click Create Password.
Notes

To open User Accounts, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click User Accounts.
A user with a computer administrator account can create and change passwords, and create password hints for all users. Users with limited accounts can only create and change their own passwords, as well as create their own password hints.
If a user with a computer administrator account changes the password for another user, that user will lose all personal certificates, and stored passwords for Web sites or network resources.
When you create a password hint, anyone who uses the computer will be able to see the hint on the Welcome screen.
