Nothing disappears like that. You mean the computer does not recognize them? Well computers are stupid. You got to tell them every little thing you are doing.

To "tell" them they exist, you have to use what is known as drivers. They install and "see" these parts.

As for your sys.restore point, you have to first enable it in windows and then you can go back to the date and time you want to put your computer back to.

Go to help file within windows and follow directions on how to do it.

No, your computer is not on meth. It is funny that you are giving life to this thing. It does so much - stupid as they are - you tend to think it is a living thing.

That is what you get for letting your computer hang around with the bad crowd.

First try to do a RESTORE. Click START, then go to ALL PROGRAMS, then click on PC HELP & TOOLS. In the RESTORE, you will hopefully go back to a time before you caught the virus. Just think of it like a time machine. If you can go back and succeed no problem. If not or problem persists then you need to do recovery next.

See if you can download the free 15 day trial of Norton's Antivirus. You download it, then reboot, then run the program without being on the internet. Takes me about 2 hours and some on mine. Get on the internet and see if you have any problems. If you do then you may need to do a recovery.

If you can not download the Norton's for whatever reason, then when you turn your computer on, hit the f10 key and that should put you in the Recovery mode.

If you do a complete recovery, then save the files and programs you need to on cd. Example, you may want to save the start up files or drivers. That way you do not have to down load again.

Remember if you do a complete recover, your computer will be set back to factory specifications.

i would format the whole thing and reinstall the os.
system restore?
what system restore are you talking about? the one on Windows XP? or it's some other program you are using like ghost?

well, don't use Windows XP if you don't know what you are doing. it is not a very good tool it's not very "peoplely" designed. the program is still basic and dumb. better not to use it.

now since it's already like that, i would reset CMOS and try start from optical drive and format the whole HD install a new os.
if it doesn't read optical drive even after resetting CMOS configuration, that is a hardware problem i think. (unless your wiring is lose)

Try the following and see what happens:

Note:
Before doing any of the maintenance steps outlined below make sure that your system is free from viruses and/or of any other undesirable Internet bugs, by running a thorough security scan of your machine
Now, you are ready for the following:
HOW TO DO A THOROUGH CLEAN UP (Windows XP; IE6)
While you are connected to the Internet do the following:
1. Click on tools ... Internet options. There you will see three buttons next to each other... “Delete Cookies” ... “Delete Files” and “Settings.” Also, below the settings button you will see another one “Clear history.”
2. Click on “settings” - go to “Edit” - Click on “select all” - Go to files, click delete and wait till all Internet trash files are gone.
3. Go back and click on “delete cookies” and wait till all cookies are gone
4. Go back and click on “Delete files,” put a check mark on the little white square shown on the small window that will open, click OK and wait for a little.
5. Go back and click on “Clear history”, click “yes” and you are done.
6. Now do a check disk and a defrag, then restart your computer and see if the problem is resolved. It is assumed that you know how to do that.
7. If the above steps don’t do the job, here is a little program that keeps your machine in shape and free from crashes:
Get on the web and go to http://www.tune-up.com/products/tuneup-utilities/site; download the free trial program, familiarize your self with it and use it to clean up your registry automatically along with a sort of other helpful and useful maintenance chores. It is an excellent little program and does wonders with PC maintenance tasks and I strongly recommend it! It works on the background on its own automatically.
After you are through with all of the above steps, go to Microsoft/Windows updates and download any and all available and applicable updates.

ADDITIONAL INFO.
Here is how to clean website addresses from you browser bar:
While you are connected to Internet, go to “Tools” … “Internet Options,” “Content” tab … “Auto Complete button” … click on “clear forms” and you are finished.
Hope this helps!

Looks like your operating system is corrupted. Try reinstalling it. Make sure your sound card has not been disabled in the Bios.
