I am asking you to help me. I am going to lose my home, car and everything I've worked very hard for. I work 60+ hrs per week as a nurse. My husband has been very ill the past 2 yrs. and has not been able to work. I attempted to file bankruptcy today but I would have to repay my debts in order to do so under the new bankruptcy laws, which I don't understand. I cannot file bankruptcy and I cannot pay the debt I currently have. My wages are being garnished so I am losing 25% of each paycheck. I am accepting any suggestions or monetary donations. Please help me. I have nowhere to turn. Cherie Bennett 222 Kensington Pl. Marion OH 43302

Certain Church's offer financial counseling.
Go to your state employment office and ask for legal advice.
There are financial planners who will help you avoid bankruptcy but beware of them as they will take more of your money and tie your wages and assets up and you will have to get a lawyer or a rich relative or friend to bail you out.
You are living in a country where they will not put you in jail for your debts. So saying that you will be garnished for not paying your bills on time and you will have to work your tail off for many years before you will be able to just break even
The church idea is the best.
As for asking for money..well you never know where there might be a saint to come to your rescue..Pray and Pray often!

Dear Cherie, I feel you, I have been there, have you tried for SSI, If your husband is unable to work you should be able to get it. My husband was sick, and I worked 2 jobs for six years. My mistake was working the extra job. Because SSI would have paid my husband $600.00 dollars a month, exactly the amount I made each month, when he applied, and it was discovered that I earned that amount, he was denied. I live in MS. so I am sure that you can get more in OH. He would have got a medicaid card, to help with the doctor, and medicine. I had joined a debt relief program, which reduced my credit considerebly. My husband had 2 heart attacks, with hospital so high I had no choice but to file banckruptcy, the only thing is that I filed just befor the laws changed. But go to you local Social Security Office, and your local welfare office, apply for financial aid, and foodstamps, cause you have yo eat, and a medical card, also the people that are garnishing you wages, contact them and see if you can have the garnishment reduced. We filed bankruptcy, and were able to keep our house,oh when you go to SSoffice, and the welfare office take documents from the doctor concerning your husbands illness. Take pay stubs that show the garnishment. Take house payment, car payment, utilities payment, any medical payments, and doctor bills. If you do not file for bankruptcy, call you creditors, and have your payments reduced, and the interest lowered, this will help a lot. Cherie working all those hours do not help, it only puts you in another tax brackett, which I told you from the beginning I worked 64 hours a week, and could not get help because of the extra income, had I not worked the extra job, we would have been elegible, for the same amount I worked for. I would never work like that again. I am 58 years old, just learning about income on the internet, I as yet am not working from home, but I am looking. Keep your house no matter what, talk to lawyer, that can help you. I hope I have said something to help you. Wish you the best, Popciclecold

Hi Cherie:

First and foremost, I am so sorry for the things that have happened to you and your husband.

You must know that you can still make it no matter what!

There is always a way to work around these types of occurrences.

I cannot send you a donation but I can offer you some encouragement and wisdom to aid in your situation.

Since you mentioned that you do not understand the new bankruptcy laws my best advice is for you to research, research, and do more research. The more you know about something the better you are able to cope with it.

You CAN pay back debt you owe.

Here’s how.

Contact your creditors and develop a payment plan (besides your wage garnishment) to satisfy your debt. Explain in detail your situation and give them a reasonable plan of action to pay over time. They WILL work with you as long as you are honest, obedient, and forth coming about your monthly payments.

Get some legal advice from a lawyer and learn your rights. An attorney can clarify how you can pay your debt without filing bankruptcy. Bankruptcy is not always the best answer when it comes to paying off your debt. Ask the attorney if there are any other methods you can use to meet your financial obligations.

Next, don’t get stressed out. I know you are thinking how in the world can someone say that! I am encouraging you to change the way you think. This will help you deal with this unfortunate situation in a healthy light without harming your body in the long run.

I strongly believe that is you keep you energy up and remain positive you will overcome this you really will.

And lastly, contact the hospital and ask if they can put your account on a extended payment plan if you owe medical bills. Again be honest and explain your situation. You never know what can happen if you don’t ask.

I hope this info has enlightened and encouraged you to be positive as well as help you pay off your debt.

Best of luck in all that you do!

God Bless….

The bankrupcy laws were changed to stop people from "screwing the system" they can still help people in a desperate situation. They will work out a plan that you can afford. And last I heard the payback is not 100%, so you are only liable to pay back some of it.
Now, hate to be rude, as you may truly need help, but the last thing I would do if I were telling the truth and really need help is post my first and last name and address on the internet. I can understand asking questions, but not posting your address. If you are for real, get a hold of another attorney and have that person really go over the process.

WOW! You very poor thing.

Credit card consolidation may be your only hope. And that is a bad thing. This is a loan taken out against your house by a credit card consolidation company. GO FOR A NON PROFIT GOV SPONSORED AGENCY!!!! They will help get the interest down on your loans and you can start repaying in smaller payments. since it is a loan against your house, if you fail to make payments the credit card consolidation company will take your house. BAD THING!!!!

Have you tried social services? Is your husband handicapped? Certain gov organization will help you out if your husband is disabled. Start contacting them Monday. You can find a list by serching your local gov website.

reach out to the community. do you belong to a church or synagogue, something like that? Some churches have emergency funds for such things. They also can have fund raisers on your behalf.

Finally, call the media. Start with local papers and work up to TV & radio. Many news organizations have "HELP-ME" reporters. They are always looking for "hard luck stories" that will boost ratings.

Good luck Cherie... it is not going to be easy for you.

a lot of people are in the same boat. Try and read some books on how to get out of debt, or manage your money books. If you do not have time to read book, ask your husband to start reading to benifit the family. You get get free books at your local library. Is your husband getting any benifits from the state or from his work? If he is ill he sould apply for some asistence. Ask family to help you or give you advise.

If the new bankruptcy court puts you on a plan that repays the debts and allows you to keep your home (one of your debts is your mortgage isn't it ?),
That seems like a good solution. I don't think you thought the plan all the way through.
If you are managed under the plan, you should NOT loose your home . . . isn't that what you want ?

Are you going to church?
Maybe your family has some assistance to offer if you don't have a church family.
