You should first have a sample tested for bacteria, flukes, etc. You may have pretty pure water already, or not. I grew up on well water. It was awesome, My Dad was a driller, and he drilled our well, and those of many of our neighbors. He would pour some bleach in a new well, just to purify anything that may have gotten into it from the drilling, etc. Then the pump and cap was installed, and rarely did anyone have any "problems" You should have it tested tho, who knows what the previous owners did, or if neighbors septic has leeched into it, or what.

NO; you're better off with that water. The benefits depend on what part of the US you live, but overall you have clean, safe uncontaminated water. City water is minimally cleaned and then the "cleaners" remain. I could detail it but, simply, well water is better. You could have it tested if you wish; that will probably just confirm how good it is. Some testing places might try to sell you a water softener or filter. A softener is only necessary if the water is very "hard". And a filter is up to your taste; literally. City/public water will make you sick faster and more often than well water. Just use it or test it then use it.

I assume it is a Drilled well with casing. Keep it cover so nothing can get in it. i wouldn't put anything in it. take a sample to the health Department and have it annualized A lot of times drilled wells contains iron and give it a little different taste, also leave a rusty stain in the commode and in your White clothes. if this is the case, you might have to put a filter on the line.

you should pour a bottle of unscented bleach down the well about once a year, let it sit overnight then run the faucets in the house until the chlorine smell is gone. also if you have just bought the property and have a septic system make sure you find out from the county what the minimum distance is from the septic drainfield to the well, and measure yours. you don't want to be getting sewage in your well water.

I agree with all of those who said get the water tested. Call a well drilling company they will help you or send you to someone who can. you need a special sterlized bottle, and need to know proper sampling methods to get a "good" sample. from there the water lab can help you get proper equipment to make sure your water is safe. If this is a new house the company who drilled the well has sample records they can send to you.

You should get water softener salt pellets ( morsons, is what I have used) ck water bin weekly or monthly an keep refilling.
do not drink the water. u will get sick! if water gets yellow or brown from faucet you need salt in the water bin softener.

Well water is more than likely to rust stain your bathtub, sinks and toilet bowls. Not to mention the well water "build up" from washing your hair .

City water is fine if it is boiled ( usually they announce it on the radio) You don't have the hassle of getting it checked all the time.

Ive had well water all my life. We get it tested once a year to make sure it's safe. Our local home extension agency does it. Thats all we do and we have never had any problems.

Leave the well alone. If it isn't broken, don't fix it, got it? Don't put anything in the well, have a professional test it if you think it needs it that bad, otherwise leave it alone. Don't mess with it.
