If the small white bumps are on the goldfishes gill plate then it is the tubercles. Its a good thing. It means first that you have a male fish and second that he is ready to spawn! Probably swimming fast around the tank, splashing, doing some side gravel rubbing. Chasing another fish? If you want to have goldfish babies get some yarn(not fancy) and wrap it around a DVD case. Then tie one end so they aren't loose and slide it off the case. Next, wrap another piece of yarn around the bottom so it looks like a pom pom. Cut the end that isn't tied and it should look like a pom pom or mini mop. Next put it the gravel pom pom up. This should be very exciting for the male. If you have a female you can feed them blood worms or tubifex worms. The better diet will help them spawn faster. Other things that help are changing a 1/4 of the water each day and raising the temp to 72-74 degrees.
Now on the other hand if the fish isn't very active and the white bumps are randomly all over the fish it is Ick. An easily treatable disease. Any pet store or even walmart will have the meds.
Happy Spawning!

i might want to manage for ich to be secure or a minimum of do a huge water replace to get the ammonia and nitrites/nitrates down. yet to be uncomplicated in case your tank isn't over stocked and your ranges are ok and also you're particular its no longer ich basically leave it, it takes some doing to deliver a goldfish to heaven lol.

if the bumps are allover the goldfish then it's ick (a type of fungus wich can be treated with medicine you get from most petstores).. BUT, if the white bumps are only on the goldfishes gill covers (cheeks) they could be tubericles wich means it's a boy.

your fish has Ich. Which is very common for fish to get. And it is easily cureable. A good product that works really fast is called "Rid-Ich" I used that when my fish got it, and it went away in just a couple of days.

bumps where?
if the bumps look like zits on their head and gill covers, then it's a male and ready to breed.
if it's a white speck all over their body, it's ich... get meds for them.
if it's a white fuzzy ball, it's fungus or bacteral infection.. get meds for them.

It sounds like ick (spelling?) and must be taken care of soon. There are medications you can get at the pet store to cure this. Good luck and may things improve.

Sounds like ich - you need to get a treatment solution from your pet store stat, or goldy will go gills up.

Hmmm... if you don't figure it out, I would call the pet store tomorrow, or maybe a vet.
You could also google it...
I hope your fish is well..
