I have a 95 gal critter tank with a stand. It once was home to an iguana. It isnt a sliding glass tank,it is a solid side. If i reinforce the stand and reseal the tank will it be safe to hold water? Are critter tanks glass tempered different? One pet store told me that the tanks are constructed the same except the critter tanks arent guarenteed to hold water.. another store told me the glass is thinner and weaker...anyone with info plz help...also im not rich or else id of just bought a new one.

I don't know for sure. I think I was told the same thing. I would
take the tank outside and fill with water and see if it does hold water, but of course, doing this way might result in breaking it. But who knows, pet store maybe trying to make a sale, who knows?

If you are unsure about it leaking, why not sell it, and put the money towards a used fish tank? If you do not have much money to start with, I would not suggest setting up a 95 gallon. It can get quite expensive. Maybe try a 55 to start. You can get a 55 kit with everything you need from your local walmart for $150. That is less than you will be spending on a filter for the 95. I know people will talk bad about the aquariums from walmart, but I bought two of them when I started in the hobby, and they are great. The only problem I ever had with mine was the heater, and that is an easy fix. You can buy the kit and stand for $230. You could easily get that out of your old tank and stand. Try putting it on ebay, or in your local paper.

A while back I had two 10 gal critter tanks that I used for fish (never even thought of the fact that maybe they wont hold water, lol) But they worked great, but I would be careful because a 10 gal may have been a little stronger than a 95 gal. I agree you should just take it outside and fill it with water, even if it breaks it will be better than if you had already bought the fish and/ or you had it in your house and it broke!

if it was originally built to hold reptiles then it might very well have been made of thinner glass. Glass is very expensive in the thicker glasses. measure how thick the glass panels are and compare them to a simular sized tank in a pet shop. if its thinner it will break and not worth your while to fix

the glass is thiner because it isn't ment to hold water, just air and an animal. you shouldn't put water in it or it could crac and water will leak.

well yea you could try resealing it and stuff, i dont know how much it would help, but it would probably help alot. there still might be some leakage
