I reformat and re-installed win95 on a PII i440Bx abit board.
Everything was cool but when I installed the controller drivers I believe it caused some problems.

Now I get a message right before the win95 logo screen saying that I might have a missing file or corrupted file C:\Dos\Himem.sys
and that there is an error in my config.sys file on line 1.

Does this has anything to do with the bus ide and the real mode atapi, I remember clicking yes when installing divers.

Anyway to correct this, thanks

Regards,
Abydos

You'll need to check and see if you have the file, Himem.sys, in your directory.. If not, you will need to find your install disks, and copy it off, if you can find it..

Win95 was a weird turning point from MS. I beleive it is a conflict with a driver or a setting that allowed you to select real mode. Windows 95 should be operating in protected mode if i remember correctly. maybe the hardware that you have is not compatabile with protected mode..... hmm.

it has to be an issue with that driver or setting because a Himem.sys error will show up before the OS load takes place.

i dont remember if this was possible back then, but try and hit F8 as it booting up and see if it will let you enter Safe Mode. look at device conflicts if any... were talking back before PnP was what it is today so im a little rusty

When you say "Controller Drivers" are you alking about "chipset Drivers" for you MOBO? I'm am not sure here, but if the later = true, then yes you are installing a driver, that super seeds win95 capability. I will not continue with this subject, due to the lack of info I have on this subject. I'f this is the first time you try this OS with the more advanced Hardware, try the F5 key while rebooting this will take you to SAFEMODE. If you load ok then it is the 32 bit drivrs that a4re giving you the prob. will have to find it and fix or replace the offending driver/ dll.

Seems to be a compatability problem!
