i have a pulsating xiena and it dont pulsate since ive brung it home. so how do i get it to pulsate ? my PH is 8.4 (did test tonight it was low) and what about the flow of the water? and and where should it be placed in the tank near the flow or good lighting or little lighting? all info will be helpful and web pages too?

Depending on your method of acclimation, it may take awhile for the pulsing to resume. The reason why they pulsate is largely unknown (they're nearly totally photosyntetic and also absorb dissolved nutrients directly from the water, as opposed to conventionaly "eating" since they have no 'mouths' like some other corals).

Medium to high flow, medium to high lighting. Xenia is known to spread like weeds, so placing in very high positions may limit it's spread.

The soft corals thread section of www.reefcentral.com is a good place to start but there are countless other coral sites.

just seen your question,i just type in (pulsating xiena)their is a very good care sheet on them,tells you about-.water flow-lighting-feeding,hope this helps you,

Pulsing xenia is a live animal trying to catch food in the water. give it a good flow of water and it may start pulsing. if its a new tank you may need to add filter feeding food
