He didn't do anything any mayor anywhere else wouldn't have done.

He was not a hero, he just did what he was told...Like quickly gathering up all the 30 foot steel core pieces onto trucks, and sending it overseas to be melted down before anyone had a chance to examine them as evidence!!! 9/11 was an inside job, and he was in on it too!!!

Mayor Giuliani did his job well during a national crisis. But, as good a man as he is, the hero status is probably inappropriate in this instance. Our definition of the word hero has changed considerably over the years and the door opened for many almost heroes. A few weeks ago in Iraq, a soldier threw himself on a live grenade & saved the lives of his patrol...at the cost of his own. That's a real hero. Another took a bullet in the foot, got a Purple Heart & came home to a hero's welcome. Hmmm. Maybe Giuliani should get some recognition for doing his job, since few people in our American work force today, actually do their job!

Because while yes he did his job no many mayors anywhere else
may not have and probably wouldnt have done theirs.
Because in this day of political underachievers doing your job qualifies as a hero, nomination for sainthood, and being put on the cover of a comicbook.:P

you're wrong about that. look at the difference in Rudy and the mayor of NO. the mayor of NO had about 5 days of notice that a hurricane was coming and he couldn't manage to use school buses or city buses to get his citizens out of harm's way, until the federal government told him to make an evacuation order.

if i had to move to one city or the other under those two, i'd pick NY. and i'm a southerner who'd rather die than live in the city with all those Yankees.

before you say i'm racist- let me point out i'm married to a black man.

The word "hero" has lost all meaning in society nowadays. People throw the word hero around to anyone who does any mundane act.

Compare him to Bush during Katrina....it makes Giuliani look like a hero.

But, you are correct, he was doing what the people who elected him trusted him to do. I must say he did look calm and strong, not panicky and discombobulated. And no one had ever had to go thru' such a thing before, so it wasn't as if he had any role models to follow. (Bush should have emulated G.)

I'm NOT a supporter of his, but Giuliani does have some good points. Wonder how he's going to live down the bad press he'll get for his ugly divorce, affairs, etc. when the Repubs put him up for nomination...should be fun to watch!

Not everyone has the courage to do their job. Sometimes even doing what you're supposed to makes you a hero. Look at our soldiers. They are just doing their job and they're heroes, each and every one of them.
