Mascara clings to your lashes and builds onto itself when you apply more than 1 coat. It doesn't actually make your eyelashes longer. It just appears that way because usually the ends of your eyelashes, naturally, are quite light, so it makes them more apparent. Also, mascara helps curl your lashes, which makes them appear more lenghtly. Generally the thickening mascaras are... well.... thicker, because it clings to your lashes better. Lengthening mascaras usually have a nice brush. Try to get a mascara that claims to lengthen and seperate. Usually, the brush gets less messy, and the formula is less clumpy. Oh ya, and beware of waterproof mascara because it becomes really dry and flakes off and also, it gets really clumpy in the brush because of the dried-up pieces.

I use Lash Blast by Cover Girl, and it works wonderfully. My eyelashes are light brown and hard to see. Mine also have trouble curling. Lash Blast maximizes the eyelashes to make them darker and longer. The ends of your eyelashes are thin and wispy, and also very hard to see. The Lash Blast is in an orange bottle, and it's easy to spot out in any store with a cosmetics section. If you use one pump for one set of eyelashes, you may need to use two to make your eyelashes maximize. Not too much to the point that your eyelashes will clump. Just work with them. After you apply the mascara, let it dry for a moment, then use the eyelash curler. It will curl your eyelashes with mascara for the support. Then you're eyelashes will be perfected.

Hi
I am an Asian so we tend to have shorter lashes, I have to buy a good curler, a construction mascara(white in colour) to lengthen my lashes before I apply the black mascara. Most mascara claim to perform requirements for me as my lashes are short I use mascara that lengthens my lashes. We have to take into consideration how we use the curler also. I went to the bobby brown counter, they taught me how to curl lashes. You should try ask the beautician for help.

erm, i think it doesnt atually make them longer, because that would be some sort of miracle,
the tips of your eyelashes can be quite light in colur, and making the whole lash darker using mascara makes not only the root, but the tip apparant.
i think it makes it ok fuller because the mascara clinging to the lash makes it thicker

It coats you lashes with a new layer. Longer because the mascara streches it out and mainly holds it in place. Kind of like how gel/hair spary holds your hairy in place.

It builds on itself. Making it build up and appear much longer and fuller, beyond the natural lash.

It adds color and some volume to it, so your lashes will be covered with a coat of it.
