It depends upon the motherboard you buy. If you are ordering through a catalogue you can specify the cpu you have and ask for their best motherboard that will accept the cpu you have.
Also if you want the best performance you will want to increase you memory, 4gb is good with the processor/motherboard you are looking at

First of all, let me tell you the clock speed of a processor (the amount of GHz or MHz does not represent its performance). Just some advice for when you buy your processor.

Now, yes, you will have to buy a new motherboard if you want to update to the latest generation of processors, the intel Core 2 Duos.
The best bang for the buck processor will be Intel's E4300 which is supposed to come out in less than a month.

You will need a new motherboard for a new intel Core 2 duo processor not only because of the fact that they use a different slot but because your motherboard's simply chipset does not support the processor.
You have the 865G chipset, while the latest one is the 975X (intel's chipset) and the 680i (nvidia's chipset).
From the 945 chipset and on, core 2 duo processors are supported.
Not only that, but you will also need new DDR2 memory (unless you buy a motherboard that supports the older DDR) and probably a new video card too (unless the video card comes with an integrated graphics chip, or unless your current computer has an AGP video card which some Core 2 Duo motherboards support).... although I don't recommend the mixing of old and new techonologies if you really want a fast computer.

Try to catch up a bit on processing hardware technology and you'll enjoy the knowledge and the benefits of not being a victim of best buy or some other big electronics store.

Whenever you want to buy your parts, go to www.newegg.com, they usually have the best prices.

Just look for a motherboard with the same socket fitting as the processor you now have.

Go to the intel site, look up your processor, it will tell you what socket type it is, then simply find a board with the same fitting.

okay, your motherboard you have now is a socket 478 meaning as long as you stay with a motherboard that will accept a 478 chipset you will be fine. if you have never changed a processor please email me and i will tell you how... you can seriously damage your system if done incorrectly
