Right-click the file & select properties to show him the size. Some photos can take up to 2MB or more. It depends on # of pixels.

It really depends on the resolution of the pic, a high res pic can be upwards of 2-3 MB or higher. Yes, most pics are much smaller, after re-sizing the average would probably be around 15-20K.

Check the amount of space they really take up and show your dad, he may be quite happy they don't take up as much space as he thought.

Try right-clicking on a photo, then go to Properties. It will show the file size of the photo. Then right-click a video, go to Properties, and show him the file size of that one! The photo should be in KB, and the video should be in MB. Explain to your dad that 1MB is 1024KB!

If he still doesn't believe you, I'm not sure anything will!

It just depends on the camera your probably talking about a 3mp cam now if you have a 6-10 mp you going to have almost the same mb as a mp3.

in my computer if you right-click on your hard drive (usually c:\) and go into properties and there should be a tab that let's you see in a nice pie chart the size of the disk and space free. You can use that as reference to show him that his computer that has for example 20 gigs free could roughly store 10,000 fairly high-quality 2 megabyte photos.

That's not entirely true - pictures come in different sizes so they are not all 2kb. Some pics can be over 1Mb. It all depends on the size and resolution.

easy.... just tell him to imagine... a picture is only like the size of a pea in a standard football field

and... a song is like a book in a standard football field :)

I'm sure he will understand that.. :)
don't forget to tell him that the football field represents the space available in the computer... keep it up!

must be some pretty low-quality pictures. Good quality are a good 1-2MB each.
