I just don’t understand how come people still write checks at busy places like Wal-Mart & supermarkets this day and age. Seriously, it is bad enough you have to wait in line to begin with but these jerks then take time to write a check and some even inconsiderate enough to record the transaction in the checkbook while still in line. These are not old people either!!! What good reason can they have for doing this? Get a debit card for crying out loud!!

Because they are parinod losers. They require being a pest in every aspect of life. They would not be complete without driving everyone nuts including themselves.

Stop whining, you are not the only person on earth you know. Some people do not want to take a chance with credit cards. And, after the clerk has taken the check, who cares if the person records their transaction? The clerk can, and where I am, usually does start on the next person. Lighten up! Life is too damned short to have an aneurysm due to high blood pressure. In the scheme of things, it is a small thing. So, why don't you stop being a jerk and take a deep breath. I use both a credit card and a check book. I do however record in the register at a later time, like in my car in the parking lot. But some folks are just to scattered to remember to do it at all. We can not all be perfect you know. Not even you .

People have many different reasons for writing checks. I personally choose to write checks at the supermarket and Wal-Mart because my bank charges me $1.00 ATM fee every time I use my debit card at those places. I know a dollar doesn't seem like a lot, but it adds up at the end of the month.

For the record, I begin filling out my check while the person in front of me checks out so all I have to do is fill in the amount and it doesn't take nearly as long.

Some people, like myself, will continue to write checks and
NOT use a debit card. I can write checks, keep up with
them and budget my money a heck of a lot easier. At the end of
the tax year, I have proof of deductions. I can balance my account much easier.

My wife and I decided a long time ago that only one of us would carry the check book and the other use cash. We don't plan
to change as long as the bank prints and accepts checks.

A debit card would make it too easy for me to spend my money and not know be able to keep up with where its going. It's what people get used to and what they want to do that makes the
world go around.

If you have a problem with check writers, then talk with the banks. You might also ask Wal-Mart to get some more
checkers while you are at it.

Nothing wrong with debit cards for those that want to use them
but, as for the "getting with the times", there's a lot about the "times" that we could all do without...such as nose earrings, tattoos and sex all over the place.

Not everyone qualifies for a debit card. Some people don't like the security risks involved with having a debit card. I worked at a Credit Union in the fraud department and after people had their card information compromised and had thousands in charges placed on them creating a mess that took quite a bit of effort to get fixed, many of them opted to simply not have a debit card anymore - exchanging convenience for security. Checks aren't completely secure either and they are slow and on their way out for sure, but having card information that grants direct access to your bank account is rather troublesome after someone gets in. And the people that had the information compromised weren't always people that were foolish enough to answer to an e-mail claiming that their account needed "confirmed"; it could be a shady Waiter/waitress at a restaurant or anything really.

I agree with having to wait from some inconsiderate person to go searching for their checkbook AFTER the clerk has wrung up their total is annoying. But debit cards are not the answer either. How many times have you watched the machine reject the card. "Try it again". the clerk says. "Well, let me get the manager". Now, I am standing there, and the clerk walks away, and I say to myself, why did I get in back of this guy/woman? Why didn't I get in the other line?

The answer if to use CASH. Nothing works as fast as cash. That's all I use. Everybody takes cash. I don't have any credit cards. I don't need them, I have money.

Get rid of your credit cards and debit cards. Save your checks for paying bills. Use cash.

I can understand there are many different reasons for people to write checks rather than use a debit/credit card. but don't wait for everything to be bagged and presented with a total before you start to make out the check. I mean you know in advance who the check is going to be made out to and you know that you have to sign the damn thing and maybe even make a little comment in the for: section.

Personally I will not get a credit card nor a checking account. I have watched people go in debt, and I will not be a part of it. I also was hurt and couldn't get money to pay my credit card for two years. It hurt my credit. We are not guaranteed a job any more, and people are being on the safe side with checks. Unless they are over drawn. Once a person is bit they learn from their lesson. Or they learn from others. You need to learn to relax, and go with the flow of life. Everything is not a rush. If it is for you. Then you need to leave earlier. If they don't write in down in their checkbook they may forget. Use your head. With the world in such a rush people don't remember things any more. They have too much on their mind. Have some common courtesy.

When you consider the cost of writing a check is about $0.06, and the cost of a debit transaction is anywhere from $ 0.25 - 0.50. check writers save alot more money in the long run. If it's that big of an issue, why don't you just go through a U - SCAN?

When you write a check .. the funds are NOT immediately drawn out of the checking account like a debt transaction is
Some people live paycheck to paycheck and don't have the actual funds at the time of the purchase
writing a check gives a few days grace period

If you are that impatient.. use the self checkout lane

Some people are just afraid that they will not be able to keep their accounts balanced with out the duplicate check or that they will lose their receipt. I use a debit card but my husband refuses to. It is just personal preference.
