Because the moron liberals misinterpreted Thomas Jefferson's statement regarding separation of church and state. They interpreted it as not having God anywhere in the country. He meant it to say that the govenment could not tell any individual how or who he or she should worship.
If our founding fathers truly intended for this separation to occur as it is being sought after today, then why did they put "In God we trust" on everything or the Ten Commandments in the court rooms.
As an aside, it seems to me that the US public school system began to decline heavily after prayer was abolished there.

Because of something called "Separation of Church and State". You are correct, our country was founded on religious freedom, but that didn't mean Christianity exclusively. Not all Americans are Christian. The ways of our founding fathers aren't necessarily the best anyway, remember they also condoned slavery and denied a woman's right to vote. Things change, societies evolve, we need to embrace all religions and promote tolerance. The only way to do that is to keep it out of government and schools.
EDIT: Although some of the 10 commandments are common sense "Thou shall not kill, commit adultery, steal, bear false witness", etc, the commandments such as "I am the Lord your God,You shall have no other God's before me" and "Keep holy the Sabbath" are inherently Christian, therefore should not displayed in public areas of the government or school. It would again, be making the assumption that all people are Christian. Imagine the uproar that would ensue if people started wanting verses from the Quran, Torah and Dhammapada displayed also. As long as you are strong in your faith, that is all that matters, you will not lose your faith just because the commandments aren't displayed or "In God We Trust" is no longer on money, would you?

Because history has been changed. It is the same people that believe we fought the American Revolution for No taxation without representation. It was on of the reasons but not the main.
Read the Declaration of Independence for further on this subject.
But the graet communist Stalin was asked how do you turn a country communist. His answer was control the Schools and control the Media the rest will take a natural course. Which both are Left and anti-religion. Because communism is left and anti-religion.
2) The seperation of Church and State was about a specific Church. Not a specific God. There is 1over 1,000 different Churches believing in the same God of Abraham. Which church are we going to seperate the government from.

This country was founded on freedom - not only religious, but speech, the press, etc. Problems arise when god - whatever or whoever that is - is brought into things. There should be a total separation of church(religion) and state(government). Then and only then can both areas retain their rightful place.

if they let your God in.. they are going to have to let all the other Gods in too... going to get crowded pretty quickly...
want a big list of "in God, Jehovah, Vishnu, Allah, Satan... ect.... we trust" on every dollar?
or do you just want your God? but if it's just your God, that's not endorsing reiligious freedoms of all the other faiths?
and on a side note... if we weren't the "roman empire"... what more successful nation that did let God into their government would we be like?... oh that's right... there aren't any that ever even came close to the Roman Empire... in fact, the more God is in Government, the more pathetic the history of the nation often seems to be... in the vast majority of cases...
and the rules of the roman republic and greek democracies were much more influential than the 10 commandments were in the forming of our nation... clearly if you read the constitution...
if the 10 commandments were the foundation... they would have included them in the constitution... clearly...

It's not. It can't. Government is a collection of people- and most of those people have beliefs (faiths) that they bring to the table. Now since those people are of all DIFFERENT beliefs, and they need to be able to get along with one another so as to get anything DONE, they each can't go wearing their religious beliefs on their sleeves- or there'd be a free-for-all on the floor of the House of Representatives. Nevertheless, God is ALWAYS present...-And you need only to listen to the lofty speeches the congresspeople make- to know He's watching over how your tax dollars are being spent...

The government is not pushing God out, but there can be no one religion that is recognized above others. You have religious freedoms here. You just do not have the freedom to force your views and beliefs on others. Christians sometimes think their religion is the only one in America and that is a lie. The Constitution states, we shall make no laws regrading the establishment of a religion or the free exercise there of. All religions are equal. Just because yours is not put above all others does not make it discrimination. So worship as you like, but respect the beliefs of others as well. We have the right of freedom from your religion.

You are correct in that our government at one time did provide "protection" for religious expression and Free Religious Speech. Our Constitution took the basic ethics of the major religions, making it a secular document, making laws to govern by. It is being replaced with Intolerance and Secular Humanism, which is otherwise known as political correctness another religion without God. Rep Sheila Jackson-Lee, democrat from TX is sneaking through HR 254 this week to agridge any Religious Free Speech...and curtail other Free Speech and criminalize it...with imprisonment and fines. Similar to the EU laws that are in place in Canada and Europe!

Ok, i smell some more Hypocrasy around here.
As i understand, this lady is trying to tell me that this country was created under religious freedom.
so, she's implying that she is citing this information on a source... which is impossible because it DOESNT EXIST.
The creators of this country created a Bill of Rights. A Bullet-Proof plan to run america. Above, you said that we should be more like the people who created our country, basically...
When Thomas Jefferson, etc...
All those noble people we should live by, as you implied...
Guess what they did.
They wrote a Bill Of Rights. Based on all their knowledge of past events, based on all their knowledge of whats good for our later generations.. no matter what we feel.. only what we KNOW.
Guess what the first thing they put on the Bill Of Rights.
The first Declaration. the most important thing to them.
SEPERATION OF CHURCH AND STATE!
They not only made 1 declaration of it. They made 2, JUST to make sure it would ALWAYS be followed.

====
"The first amendment to the US Constitution states that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;" both these clauses, known as the "establishment clause" and the "free exercise clause" respectively, are significant. To give perspective, there was a great conservation of language in the Bill of Rights; the intention was to avoid creating loopholes, while still providing a buffer between the Legislature and the most basic rights of the people. It is significant, then, that there are two clauses where one would suffice, were the intention only to prevent respect for a religious establishment or only to protect free exercise."

You little preacher girls have a lot to learn about the world. Never question god's existance. Thats what my priest said. He said god would damn me. Guess what, i know god doesnt exist. If he does, he didnt create this world, he created another that unexpectedly created us. Look around, non of it makes sense. Priests know that.. thats why they tell you not to question god's existance, and when you get curious.. all you hear in your head is "Or God Will Damn You Straight To HELL!"
Look, if you wanna believe in god that's fine.. do it on your own time.. dont bother other people with it. We dont want to hear it.
I believe in the morals religion tries to teach you, but when people try to use religion in order to gain votes for things like Abortion and stuff, that's rediculous! that should be a crime!
Religious leaders say, you should never kill a baby because its god's little baby, or w/e...
i get slightly annoyed with it because...
If a 24 year old woman gets raped... or just has a bad accident that they dearly regret.. and they cant raise the baby because their lives are just.. unthinkably, and unimaginable more hectic then most people understand.
Why cant they have an abortion? They dont believe in god, yet they hafta live by his rules? Thats rediculous.. sorry if you dont agree...
God didnt write 'abortion is bad...' in the bible!
The word 'ABORTION' wasn't even around at the time.
They couldn't DO ABORTIONS...
So who put it in there.
Good question. HMMMM! i wonder....
Oh yea, maybe god coincidentally came down and wrote it in there with his invisable pen. Oh booyah! go religion! woot!
Religion is VERY important to human existance. God, is not.
We need God because we are too afraid of what might happen if we start to teach people that you should learn these morals (those found in bibles) .. but we shouldnt learn them in fear of God, we should learn them because we want to be good people.
Yea, that miiiiight not work.
God is for support when a loved one dies, God is for a good-nite kiss, God is for making prisoners more stable.
Lets keep it that way, and not let it take over our gov't.
Religion needs a Breathalizer. =))))
